I can see this alleged hatred of OSU being instigated and fueled by it's enormous alumni base, but to be labeled the 'most obnoxious fans in the country'? That's quite a statement, Laley, so you really need to find this article to back up your claim.

B1G country is one thing, but the entire US of A?? :o

I looked for a survey having OSU fans as the most obnoxious in the country and I couldn't find it, but I don't think it's hard to believe that it existed. (I found a bunch that had OSU in the top 10) Especially around 2002/2003 and 2006. The fringe fans who come out when a team is on top are IMHO the most obnoxious. (I did not watch the game last night because everyone here was so certain it would be a blowout. I can understand how an Illinois fan like snot could find that obnoxious.)

Well than I dont have an article, and I dont care nearly enough to try and find one. But one of the best college sports programs (all sports), probably top 5, is coupled with one of the largest (behind ASU??? Maybe #1?? Not sure) alumni bases in the country I dont see why its so hard to see that people see OSU fans as arrogant and obnoxious. Again, it isnt a bad thing. But when your good, have a lot of you, and have a reason to talk shit (cause your good) people are gonna notice.

I found several just for shits and giggles that had Ohio State #1...mostly directed at the football program (and by a WIDE margin). I too find it hard to believe so many seem incredulous to the notion lol. Nobody hates a loser. If nobody hates you you're not doing it right.

Sorry, but you make a statement like that, you're going to get called out on it. I also did a search, and every 'list' I saw had OSU in the top 10, none in the top 5 (not saying that there aren't lists out there with them higher, I just didn't come across any). It's one thing to voice an opinion, but you make a definitive claim, you really should be prepared to back it up. ;)

Thanks for taking on my "accountability".

Like I said, that was a similar poll to the ESPN one a few years ago. Results weren't that swayed, but OSU was around 35% and had a lot of states (around half) that voted them #1.

Dont get so up in arms, its a compliment to be hated and to have other schools think your "arrogant".

I would imagine that it is different for basketball but overall?...meh, who cares. Doesn't change where I went to school lol

I definitely think it varies sport to sport. But overall, OSU is right there.

They are top basketball and football. Along with some others (Florida, mainly) but they are the largest alumni of those schools. Finding polls is one thing, but even just using that common knowledge you would have to admit OSU would be in the top 3-5.

As an ex-Ohioan who lives in Illinois, I can tell you two things:

1. Ohio State, by my experience and contact with Illinois' folks, is not well-liked at all. Across the river (in Missouri) the attitude is a little better, but here we are just above used-car salesmen and lawyers on the likeability scale.

2. You almost have to go to Champaign-Urbana to find really rabid support for Illinois athletics. A lot of people in the area wear Illinois apparel, but probably couldn't tell you any member of the starting team. I notice that high school athletics isn't as well-attended as it is in Ohio, so that may have a little to do with their seeming malaise.

Just my observation, I could be wrong.

As for last night, we lost to a team that played a near-flawless game in their house, with a player who had a career night. We lost by five points to a team which shot 60% from the field. We had our chances to pull away but didn't. The outcome of the game was in doubt until we were inside the final minute.

I'm not worried. They still have to come to our house in February. Indiana will get to find out how good a road team they are this Sunday.

Your observation is fairly accurate. Collegiate athletics (for the most part) are not worshiped in Illinois as they appear to be in Ohio. But there are fanatics....just not nearly as many.

To be fair though, if you read through the thread, a ton of OSU, Wisconsin and Michigan fans posted, probably skewing the results.

And I would say that is called jealousy because of the success of the two major sports, football and basketball. Except for Florida during the back to back titles, there isn't a big time school that has been consistantly good in both football and basketball more than OSU. And now with Meyer as well as Matta, I don't believe there are two better coaches in combination in the country.

Lol, I'm not sure why people are disputing the #1 most obnoxious or most hated so much, its clear anywhere you go outside of Ohio(or even in Ohio in Cincinnati or Toledo) that people for the most part hate Ohio State. Whether they're #1 or #3, it doesn't really matter, the fact is Ohio State is one of the most hated schools in the country and I'm fine with it. Like was mentioned earlier, ill take being hated and good over neutral and irrelevant(or hated and irrelevant like ND /sleeper'd :))

It's just not true.

Shannon Scott has more potential than Aaron Craft. Craft is a great defender, one of the better defensive PG's in sometime, IMO, however, he does not have the complete package that Shannon Scott does.

There is absolutely no reason why they can't share time and also be on the floor at the same time for a few minutes each game.

How many minutes did Scott get against Illinois??

OSU is one of the most hated as well as one of the most liked...

SI had an article a few years ago that called Ohio State the NYY of college athletics because of the hate they received and how big their fan base is.

ROAD WOES FOR BUCKEYE HOOPSTERS. Fear not, Buckeye fans, for not every Buckeye basketball game is played on the road.Thankfully.
The now 15-3 Buckeyes are a dismal 2-3 on the road with losses at Kansas, Indiana and Illinois. Of course, life is often about how you look at it, and it makes it a bit easier to swallow when you consider that each of those teams is undefeated on their home court.
Winning on the road has not only been a Buckeye problem this season, it's plagued much of the current top 25. In fact, the current top 25 is 60-34 on the road for the entire season, or 64%. When you look at how the current Top 25 has fared against ranked teams on the road, that winning percentage drops 30%. Only Michigan State has two road wins against teams that were ranked in the Top 25 at the time of the game (Wisconsin and Gonzaga).
The Buckeyes next road trip will be to Lincoln, next Saturday for their second meeting of the year with Nebraska. If they lose that one, then put me firmly in the corner of "concerned about the inability to win on the road".
