Speculation is that Bernie Kosar wil in some way, shape or form be part of this new regime.

Jimmy Haslam just told us on @ BullandFox that he texts
Bernie Kosar more than anyone else in reference to the # Browns.

Got this second hand so take it FWIW. I don't listen to this dumb bastard....

"ESPN Cleveland's Kenny Roda stated last night that a reliable source for him, told him that don't be surprised if the G.M. and Head Coach positions are offered at end of season to Mike Lombardi and Jon Gruden, respectively..."

People are down on Gruden it seems, but if he came to this town and won he would be a God here. He has the kind of personality that would really play well here if this ship gets turned around.

Not to mention, being a local kid he "gets it" as far as what the Browns mean to Cleveland. With this fan base that goes a really long way because we have had a string of coaches that just don't understand it.

In Cleveland that seems to be more important to our fans than it is to fans in many other cities, and will go a long way toward the success of any coach that comes here.

I would love to have Gruden. I think he would be my #1 choice for former head coaches still around the game.

As for current assistants we might be targeting, I forget one name but know the other is the DB coach for Phili. All I have to say is fuck that. Its easy to make yourself look decent when you have that kind of talent in that secondary (they look like shit half of the time anyways).

1. DON'T touch the helmet
2. Would love to have Bernie be a part of the franchise.
3. On the fence on Gruden. He won with Dundy's team in Tampa. Had no success in Oakland. But he is a local guy and is pretty bright.

Gruden also sucks a lot of D's on ESPN. It would be extremely annoying to listen to his pressers in Cleveland. Can't stand him on BSPN.

Huh? Oakland went from 4 wins to 8-8,8-8, 12-4(went to AFC title game), 10-6(screwed with the tuck rule, would have gone to AFC title game at least. Then he joins the bucs and beats his old team in the SB.

Wut? In his first year with Oakland, we took them from last place in the division to 8-8. Made the playoffs 3 straight seasons with them, took them to the AFC championship, and another year lost to the eventual champions in the Patriots, only because of a bullshit call.

You say he only won because of inheriting Dungy's team. Dungy was fired you know, so lets not make him out to be some God that left Tampa for Indy. Oh yea, and the team Gruden beat to win the Super Bowl was "his team" led by Bill Callahan (lol). That has to count for something..

I really really would like to see who some of you guys prefer over Gruden.

He'd be more entertaining to listen to than Derpmur.

That's the problem every regime has had here in Cleveland....they want to bring in all their buddies instead of searching and bringing in the RIGHT person for the job.

i would be behind the gruden/lombardi combo because they did have success while in oakland together but the fact that that success was 10 years ago and both being out of the business aspect of football for a few years has me leery of it

Lombardi is a clown. Not a big fan of the Gruden selection either in that I think the game has kind of passed him by.

Any reasoning to this? He hasn't been out that long. Joe Gibbs was out of the game for over 10 years, and he took the skins back to the playoffs in his 2nd season.

Agree.

Dick Vermeil was out for 18 years and put together the greatest show on turf with the Rams in the late 90's and then was really successful with the Chiefs after that.

It is possible to leave the game and come back successful as it has been done before.

Gruden being in the booth during that time to me actually is a positive as opposed to just being totally out because you kind of keep up with what is going on in the league and are still watching some tape and such every week to get ready for your game. It's different than when coaching, but it at least keeps you in the loop.

So if Shurmur can turn this around and get this team to 7-9 or 8-8 does he keep his job?

Not really. I still have them at 7-9 with the upcoming schedule.

The Browns are simply not going 6-5 with Shurmur as a coach.

We all talked about this before the season even started, and a lot of us were saying that this youngest roster in the NFL would struggle the 1st half of the season, but learn how to win and show a lot of progress in the 2nd half of the season.

They are sitting at 1-5 right now....and have been in every single game they have played and could easily be 3-3/4-2.

I have seen improvement across the board and think our theory still has merit to it and these young guys will continue to get better and win games the 2nd half of the season:

The following games they SHOULD win:

Colts
Raiders
Chiefs
Redskins

These games I think could be a win if they continue to play better and finish games:

Ravens: We were very close to beating them the first game on national tv, and their 3 biggest defensive players are hurt.
Steelers: Aging roster and this just seems like a typical down year for the Steelers, but we should be able to atleast split with them.
Chargers: Traveling across the country to play the Browns, a good gameplan can beat Norv...especially with special teams
Cowboys: Romo is as incosistent as they come...and so is their coach.
Broncos: It's tough anytime you play Peyton, but that's why you play the games.

I think the Browns can grab atleast 2 wins from that group and would put their final record at 7-9....I think that would be enough to keep Heckert and Shurmur here...BUT they have to win those games they are suppose to win, and "steal" a few victories from better teams like Mangini was able to do against the Saints/Patriots. If they can do that and all of our young players keep improving week to week, I think it;s a no brainer you keep the stability in place and look towards how you make this team better.
