IMO it is Dream Theater. No band, in my mind, can accomplish what Dream Theater has instrumentally. 4:13 is an insane drum solo by Mike Portnoy.

What are some of your favorite bands? Post some vids.

i really like dream theater. labrie's voice is too high for me though, that and their best member left to play arena rawk with avenged sevenfold.

imo - great, but not greatest.

Dream Theater have been influenced by all of these bands, especially Pink Floyd, Rush, and Metallica. I also love Dream Theater and they are IMO one of the most talented bands technically of all time. But Rush, Pink Floyd, and Metallica have influenced more bands simply because they have been around longer so I view them as "Better" than Dream Theater.

(edit)
Since "London Calling" by The Clash is the greatest rock album ever, makes that band greatest, imo.

I do agree that Labrie's voice is way too high, he can't really carry a tune anymore. IMO, he should be replaced. I was sad to see Portnoy go, I'm not sure if he is more talented at playing drums than Jordan Rudess is at the keys. Mike Mangini is a decent replacement for Portnoy. Either way, this band is supremely talented instrumentally.

Led Zeppelin is #1. Not sure about #2, maybe The Who, Queen, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, Rush, Steely Dan.

Are we posting "the greatest band ever" or some bands we think are talented musically(stupid metric IMO) or should we focus on those we think write good songs/lyrics?

i'd say they're in the top twenty or so.

journey blows, nothing personal.

greatest band of all time is a hard one to choose, most bands i like have one or two things that really could improve. most of the bands with huge record sales, tons of fans, and play those massive shows suck in one way or another. here's a cool jam

If we're talking most musically talented group then how can't you say it's Rush! They've got basically a thousand piece drumset and if you ever notice listening to their songs that each song just seamlessly has all these different sounds. IMO though nobody will do what PF did again, so original and yet amazing
