I am not defending Harrison, I think he had an opportunity to go lower than he did. I, do, however believe he (Harrison) thought McCoy was going to run the ball.

McCoy was a ball carrier just as Mendenhall was when Gucong hit him with the crown of his helmet. Was a flag warranted on that play??
Gucong hit Mendenhall right up under the facemask, nearly turning his helmet sideways. Did Gucong lead with the crown of his helmet? You bet he did! Did Gucong make helmet=to-helmet contact. Hell yes he did! Was Gucong penalized on the play. Hell no he wasn’t. He hit a running back. Which was EXACTLY what McCoy was on that play until he flipped the ball out to Hardesty at the last moment before taking the hit.
I agree with both of those. I don't think this particularly play was anything I'd call cheap or dirty, but Harrison has had a reputation for head shots in the past and wasn't going to get ANY benefit of the doubt. I was hoping there'd just be a fine, but was expecting a short suspension. If a person's been known for something and they do that thing...even if they haven't in some time...they'll get a more harsh punishment.
At least, since a suspension was a result, we can take consolation in how he got suspended for a play that did have an effect on the game's outcome. It'd really suck if he was going to miss a game for a play he made when the outcome was already decided or that didn't matter at all in deciding it.
Speaking of that, will anything happen to the Browns for apparently not testing him and putting him back in? I know the league has been more concerned about concussions and has a testing system up for players who suffered head shots to make sure they're okay. The impression I have is that Cleveland's staff ignored that (since McCoy only missed two plays which a Yahoo blog entry commented took up about 80 seconds of real time) and took the "he said he's okay, so who are we to argue?" direction. But is that sideline medical testing mandatory for head shots, or just something the league advises that teams do?
