The toss technically should have disallowed the TD but that doesn't mean much to me. The guy made the play, did the work and tossed the ball a half-second too early.
Just my humble opinion, but just a couple of things that "the best college player of the season" doesn't do.

You're entitled to your opinion but I don't think one poor off-the-field decision such as the mistake Mathieu made changes how good/great of a player he's been this season. Nor do I think tossing a ball to a ref early changes how good of a player he is. But you do and that's fine. I disagree with that logic.

I guess too, for me at least, the elephant in the room is that were he not playing for LSU he would hardly be a blip on the radar considering how little defensive players get looks in the history of the award.

Fair point but the same could be said for Woodson at Michigan in '97.

I'm going with RGIII then Luck. Without those 2 on their teams, both Baylor and Stanford are terrible and arent even close to getting a bowl game. I think RGIII is the best player in the country. Has almost 4,000yds passing and almost has 50tds total. If Richardson gets it, the Heisman is a sham now bc he gets it for being the best player on the best team. He is a really good player, dont get me wrong, I just think RGIII is the best player in the country and deserves it more.

How can TM7 win it if he's not even the best defensive player on his own team?

This is eerily similar to the NCG. How can Alabama win it if they aren't even the best team in their own division?

Off the field issue or not, he isn't going to win it IMO. That being said, I heard Archie Griffin interview the other day and he said he certainly looks at the individual in terms of football as well as CHARACTER. Add in the Reggie Bush issue, and I certainly do think off the field issues are taken into consideration. Not saying Mathieu is a bad apple. But the suspension is what it is.

As I said earlier, I wouldn't be surprised if that cost him some votes....but I was making a case for him based on what he did on the field. I think his resume and timely big plays could win it for him. His mistake doesn't change how great of a player he is....but it could cost him some votes.

Interesting stats comparing RG3 to Tebow Heisman year:

Tebow
3300yds
67%
32 TDs
6 INT
172 rating
890 rushing yds
23 TDs
Total Yardage : 4190
YPG: 322
55 TOTAL TD's
RECORD : 9-4
**This includes Bowl Game.

RG3 Stats:
4000yds
72% completion
36 TD's, 6 INT
192 rating
645 yds rushing
9 TD's

TOTAL Yardage 4645 yds
45 TD's
387yds per game

Teams record : 9-3

** Griffin has one game left.

By all accounts, Griffin has had as good a year as Tebow had during his Heisman year. And, Griffin still has one game to play. Interesting that he hasn't gotten near the media/hoopla attention that Tebow got.

Because numbers aren't everything:

Case Keenum

5099yds
45TD, 5 INT
Comp %: 71.5
392ypg

If numbers aren't everything, than why did Tebow win it when his team lost 4 games that year?

* Keenum competition is questionable. RG3 and Tebow competition is very comparable.

History of the program and not as much pre-season buzz? Only things I can think of.

Same thing will probably happen with the Baylor Men's Basketball team as far as media/hoopla attention goes(on the court only, not including the Patrick Dennehy death).

Comparing numbers is questionable. The media spun Tebow into the second coming of Jesus, so he won.

One more comparison between Tebow and RG3 is that Florida was #9 going into the bowl game(when Heisman vote took place),Baylor is 15th. I know its not a team award but that the level of competition his team plays against is probably the biggest thing going against Keenum.

Agree, though I could see Luck being vaulted to 2nd because some voters will look at the past 2 years, though they shouldn't. Also some dumb old voters probably picked him because he's the only white guy.
