Ursuline has D-1 talent and JFK is more in-line with a D-5/6 school. The JFK program has low numbers and keeps shrinking. It has been UHS choice to play "up" in their schedule. JFK is D-6 and would not help them.

I would like to see Fitch play Mooney and Ursuline again regularly. Some great games between those schools in the past.

I always thought that Mooney, Ursuline, Hoban, St.V., St Thomas Aquinas, Canton Central Catholic, and Warren JFK. should form a league. It would make sense and it would srill leave room for 4 out of conference games. Just a thought.

As for non conference schedules I know CW played their two NC games against teams that made it to the state. KEnton, is in the DIV finals, and Hicksville, of which CW beat in the semis. They played in week two. CW has played perennial power Kenton in week one for a long time. The other NC game has bounced around from some big schools in indiana, a DI ohio school from dublin, and some other schools.


DSJ is in DVI. Thsi year they played their two NC games against a DI powerhouse in detroit (lost by a TD) and also lost to the DV team that won the AP crown in LCC. They find it VERY hard to fill their schedule and not uncommon to play a team a couple of hours away. A few years ago I am pretty sure they swept the two game series against a DIII playoff team in one of their NC matchups.

SH, who usually is great, played a DV team that I think wend undefeated and lost in the first playoff game in marion pleasant.

The MAC usually plays a pretty good NC schedule to help them get ready for the playoffs.

I know that scheduling had been a problem for some of the schools. It was one of the reasons for the error of admitting Anna. Which gave the teams a 9 game league schedule that cost league teams a chance at the playoffs. Now back to the 8 league games and 5 times in the playoffs.

DSJ, CW, MSML, PKWY, Anna, Minster, NB, Vers, FtR, StHn ... That's 10 teams. They only play 8 league games, used to be 9.

They added anna but has also changed the scheduling in the league to ensure two NL games. It is a formula, rotated every two years, that ranks the teams top to bottom. It goes by league wins and such. The top team doesnt play the last team, and so on. CW hasnt played Ft Recovery for a couple of years because they were the lowest team, and CW the highest. There was some discontent in the league so they came up with this formula.

there was a bad number of teams in the league and each week one team had to play a NL game. That isnt too hard the first 2 weeks of the season, but as the seasson went along it became harder to find teams who had an opening for a NL game in week 3-10. That was tough to find.
2001-2005 CW for instance had to find a NL game for week 4. They played LCC for a couple of years (LCC dropped CW after CW beat them 76-7.
They went to Ft Wayne to play a DII, or DI, sized Indiana school that wasnt very good. Then CW played DI Dublin Jerome for two seasons before Anna was added in 2006.

Anna was added to help scheduling Then some of the smaller schools started to complain as in recent years Versailles, and Anna, were added and they were bigger.


SO in 2008 they started that new type of scheduling whre you dont play all the MAC teams. IT went by the formula to help basically everyone. The better schools got to find a NL game to get more points, and the lesser teams got to find a NL game they could win.

2008 CW played a big indiana school, kokomo, then their second NL game was Ben logan for two years, and then hicksville. CW has played Kenton since 2000 in week one.

This year FIVE mac teams made the playofs



To make scheduling easier they added Anna.

I dont think adding anna cost the league playoff spots. If they hadnt gone with the rotating schedule and only had one NL game then yeah, that is an issue, but the new program has been genius.

When the league had an odd number a number of teams were playing the same NL foe. There was a time I think 3-4 teams were playing the same NL foe and that didnt do that great for computer points because most times that NL foe lost all the games vs mac teams.

Linsly is also a private school but they cant hide behind religion . They are the top acedemic school in the tri state . it used to be a military academy. They ironically are not allowed to compete in the WVA playoff system ,more hypocracy by the powers that be . Incidently they would give Mooney and Ursulin a game this past year maybe even beat one of them

Is this the same Linsly(Wv) school that Mogadore beat in 2010? I'm not convinced Linsly Could beat Mooney or Ursuline. And they would prob be a 5-5 team against the Mac.

All of what you said is true, but the last comment I dont agree with.

I think alot was gained by adding Anna and going to the rotating schedule, with NL games in weeks 1 and 2.

It is hard to get NL games for some schools in the MAC, but even more difficult when those open weeks are in week 3-10. The number of possible opponants were dwindling in season as pretty much everyone was getting into conference play. Sidney Lehman was a team that a number of MAC teams were scheduling because they were one of the few teams that were not affiliated with a league. I think some seasons 3 MAC teams, maybe more, would play Lehman and they were almost like a league foe. They would lose against the mac usually and next thing ya know they werent gaining many points.

The rotating schedule is a good one, even though some rivalries arent being played such as ML and Versailles. That part sucks, but this setup is almost the best of both worlds. Better than having one mac team find a NL game every week, and better than having 9 league games.

I think if anna wasnt added then we would see it get increasingly harder to find NL opponants that would help the MAC teams.

I get the history and the number of teams that make the playoff's from the MAC, very impressive for sure. Todays game was very one sided and Coldwater did not look impressive at all. Not sure the "MAC ruled D-V today"! Using terms like "rules" takes balls and you have them!!!!

CW confused me all year. Get shut out vs Marion, gets dominated by Minster, then gets into the playoffs and their offense suddenly looks sharp. I think once Coldwater ran into a team that wasn't afraid of them and could hold their own in the trenches, their offense seemed to not know what to do.

CW may own the MAC titles but when it comes to state championships it's Marion Local and Delphos that lead the pack. Whoever wins the playoff game between the two usually ends up bringing home the gold.

Yep Kirtland outplayed them in that game. I meant no disrespect to Kirtland and have pseudo followed them for 6 or 7 years (have a friend from the area).

In football alone since 1990 teams now belonging to the MAC have 20 state championships, 10 state runner-ups, and 10 semi-finalists. Also on a side note there were 3 years in which they won 2 championships.

By the way I am but a distant fan of their football, not a biased homer. I live 175 miles away in WCAL country. Congrats Bobcats.

So the MAC schools make up a little over 1% of the schools in Ohio playing football, but have over 16% of the championships in the last 20 years. According to the logic of some on here, they must have an unfair advantage. Or could it be that they have developed great programs that kids want to be a part of.

Congrats to the MAC. I always enjoy watching those teams play in the state tournament, and they are the best small school conference in the state.

Outside of the MAC, there are only a handful of teams in Ohio in D-6 that are any good at all. Most people in Ohio who follow the large schools get their reference point from this. There is something wrong when a MAC school don't win D-6 football title.
