Pandora is also extremely repetitive.

Pandora is extremely overrated, as are most other music streaming apps.

Spotify is one of the better ones, just sucks you have to be premium to stream to your phone.

Spotify is trying too hard to bring the social network aspect into it. There's one fatal flaw:

Nobody on Facebook gives a shit what you're listening to

Eh, I don't mind seeing what friends are listening to so I can give them shit for listening to shitty music.

Agree, but all you do is uncheck something in the file menu to stop sharing what you're listening to.

It's not really an inconvenience to anyone that doesn't want to share or doesn't want to see what their friends are listening to.

TL;DR: Quit yer bitchin'.

I finally gave Spotify a whirl. Created a fake facebook account or that would have been a deal breaker. The caching is a really nice feature (although I can do this on Pandora, too, with software) and I wouldn't have issue paying $10 a month to support the artists.

Like 20X+ the selection of Pandora. I have Pandora premium, by the way, and think it's great. I get essentially unlimited skips that way and most of my stations work quite well. Takes some time to set it up, seeding by song (instead of the artist, just choose your 5-10 favorite songs by that artist) and then use the thumbs up or down fairly liberally. Part of the fun, IMO. Agreed about being repetitive (although that's partly a function of too narrow a seeding), but then sometimes you like to hear songs more so they really just need an option to fine-tune that. Incidentally I find seeding stations with my favorite songs from 10 similar artists or so works best.

The other big advantage to Spotify is the $10 plan streams in 320 bit rate for many songs. Pandora premium ($3/month, but actually $36 for a year) is 192.
