Agreed. Its meaningless and a way for companies to offer free stuff(read: cheap advertising disguised as a good deed) to veterans.

Yes. People thank the veterans all year round, do veterans actually care about a day dedicated to them?

Sleeper has a long standing history on here of bashing military types.

What is the purpose of Veteran's Day? To recognize and honor the Veterans of this great nation.

It is just like any other holiday out there. Mothers/Fathers/grandparents etc etc etc day.

Some companies such as Applebee's use it as a marketing ploy, no doubt about that, but exploiting holidays to hock ones own goods has been going on for decades and decades. There are sales for memorial day, christmas, july 4th, mothers day, fathers day, valentines day...the list is vast.
People should be thankful each day for Jesus, our independance, our mothers, our fathers, our significant others.....

So, sleeper, in yet another attempt to rip on the military I think many will see past your shallowness.

People go to church every Sunday. Do we really need two days (Christmas and Easter) dedicated to Jesus?

I don't bash military types, I bash the people who are overzealous in their praise for someone doing a job they signed up to do at fair market value. If they didn't get paid, then I would give them all the praise in the world. They are doing a job they signed up for, just like any other profession.

So every other day we should not recognize these veterans? Noted.

What's the purpose of celebrating anything then? Thanksgiving, Christmas, Independence Day....your birthday????

We're thankful every day for being a nation, we are thankful baby jesus was born and died for our sins (every day), we celebrate our independence in everything we do....and we all know you were born and are extremely thankful for that.

My son is a veteran and he told me one time it means a lot more to him when people thank him for his service on any other day other than Veterans Day. He feels they are doing it not as sincerely. Thats how he feels anyway but he may or may not be in the majority.

LOL @ baby jesus. I'm not thankful he was born and died for these magical little things called "sins", I'm dreadful that anyone made up the bible and all the fictional stories in it.

You don't need a day for veterans, its a meaningless holiday. You should be thankful for people for do their jobs everyday, regardless of profession.

It's a day set aside to recognize those people who keep this country free to allow you to underachieve.

Ok cool. So my tax dollars are meaningless to keeping this country free. It's terrible logic that veterans are the only people keeping this country free. We should thank anyone and everyone who is employed because they keep America free.

It's not a need. It is a want by some folks. We want to have it and we do.
