I don't bash military types, I bash the people who are overzealous in their praise for someone doing a job they signed up to do at fair market value. If they didn't get paid, then I would give them all the praise in the world. It is just like any other holiday out there. Mothers/Fathers/grandparents etc etc etc day.
Some companies such as Applebee's use it as a marketing ploy, no doubt about that, but exploiting holidays to hock ones own goods has been going on for decades and decades. There are sales for memorial day, christmas, july 4th...the list is vast.

My son is a veteran and he told me one time it means a lot more to him when people thank him for his service on any other day other than Veterans Day. He feels they are doing it not as sincerely.
