My guess is the BoT will not make it through this either. Granting Sandusky access to the program should result in their dismissal.

Paterno got fired because, to the end, he displayed the same arrogance he has throughout all of this. It was never about the victims here; it was only about Joe.bigkahuna;966245 wrote:He has a point to an extent. Instead of deciding whether or not he's the coach, why not trying to name Victim #2? Why not put 100% effort into the investigation to get everyone who is/was involved questioned/prosecuted.... In the grander scheme of things, HIS job seems a bit secondary.
Even now, he's more concerned with continuing to try and explain away his negligence instead of quietly moving on and accepting that he made an egregious error in judgment that ended up hurting a lot of children.
I have no problem with how he was fired, either. He helped create part of the circus atmosphere that enveloped HV the past couple days, and his insistence on TELLING the board he was going to retire at the end of the year -- was likely the final straw in all of this.
As for why he was fired vs. how the others were treated; I'm guessing it has to do with the level of true authority and closeness to the situation, and his on-going reluctance to take responsibility for his actions, and his belligerent attitude.
In other words: he reaped what he sowed.

I'm guessing it isn't entirely the same board, but who would get rid of the BOT? Who has that power at a university?WebFire;966455 wrote:My guess is the BoT will not make it through this either. Granting Sandusky access to the program should result in their dismissal.

Someone asked that at the press conference last night and they said there was something on their web site about how to replace a board member.dwccrew;966461 wrote:I'm guessing it isn't entirely the same board, but who would get rid of the BOT? Who has that power at a university?

I'm merely speculating, but I would guess that the State BoE or something to that effect would have authority since it's a state school. Whoever appointed/hired the trustees.dwccrew;966461 wrote:I'm guessing it isn't entirely the same board, but who would get rid of the BOT? Who has that power at a university?

Every Board has termination terms written into it's by-laws. If any of them are holdovers from 2002 - they gotta go too.

I wonder how many are the same as well. Any that were around for either of the incidents should be gone.dwccrew;966461 wrote:I'm guessing it isn't entirely the same board, but who would get rid of the BOT? Who has that power at a university?

I would agree that any board member, that was a member when Sandusky was granted access to campus, should be relieved of duties.bigkahuna;966475 wrote:I'm merely speculating, but I would guess that the State BoE or something to that effect would have authority since it's a state school. I'd say anyone from 1998/99 on, when Sandusky retired and was granted emeritus status.Tiernan;966479 wrote:Every Board has termination terms written into it's by-laws. If any of them are holdovers from 2002 - they gotta go too.

I didn't see her grand jury testimony, so I don't know if she admitted to knowingly ignoring it. If she says she had no idea, I don't know if I'd believe it. But if she admitted to knowing and doing nothing (which is what Joe Paterno admitted), I would feel similarly about her as I do Joe Paterno. I don't know what her job is, but I would say without hesitation that any involvement she has with the charity should immediately cease. And there would be no reason to respect her regardless of what good she may have otherwise done.Skyhook79;966410 wrote:Wouldn't Sandusky's wife be even closer yet she had no clue obviously.
If it turns out that others - board members, coaches, university personnel - knew and not only ignored it but celebrated the guy or helped to enable him, they should be removed from the position as well. You act as though our not knowing anyone else's involvement means that Joe Pa is being singled out unfairly. The reason there's enough to internalize how we feel about his actions/inaction is because his own sworn testimony indicates that he knew enough to constitute more action. Other than those who have already been removed (and the assistant coach who should also be removed), we can't arbitrarily say this or that person should be fired.

Can't find a means to rid a Trustee but there are definitions of responsibilities and expectations.

Penn State's 32-member Board of Trustees is composed of the following: Five trustees serve in an ex officio capacity by virtue of their position within the University or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. They are the President of the University; the Governor of the Commonwealth; and the state secretaries of the departments of Agriculture; Education; and Conservation and Natural Resources. Six trustees are appointed by the Governor; nine trustees are elected by the alumni; six are elected by organized agricultural societies within the Commonwealth; and six are elected by the Board of Trustees representing business and industry endeavors.

The Interim Coach that the BOT appointed to replace Paterno:

Interesting he has been on staff for 33 years But I'm sure the BOT vented him properly on the child sex scandal that went on. smh

So, I guess the alumni, the governor, businesses, agricultural groups, depending on who the person is will determine who has the authority to fire themCon_Alma;966494 wrote:Can't find a means to rid a Trustee but there are definitions of responsibilities and expectations.

You mean vetted. But your term will be more appropriate if it turns out he also turned a blind eye to all this -- which is more likely than not, given the amount of time he was on the staff.Skyhook79;966519 wrote:The Interim Coach that the BOT appointed to replace Paterno:

Fucking Bull Shit.
Bradley just said, "McQueary is scheduled to coach on Saturday, it will be a game time decision on whether he's on the sidelines or in the press box."
Also, Bradley had some knowledge of the 2002 incident apparently.
FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU PSU.

Just further proves that JoePa was a scapegoat, the biggest fish they could fry since Sandusky and Paterno's 2 superiors have already been charged.bigkahuna;966548 wrote:Fucking Bull Shit.

I can't understand why McQueary is being given a pass here -- unless some sort of deal was struck with the prosecutor for his testimony (like I believe it was with Paterno...thus no charges) as a cooperating witness, and they have somehow convinced the Board to leave him alone.
There's one other possibility here, and I hate to even bring it up. McQueary grew up in State College and was a kid who had contact with Sandusky. It could be that he was also a victim of the man and is being given a break, even though he has not (yet) publicly acknowledged this.
Unless there is some mitigating factor here, though, the man should have been fired with Paterno.

When asked why McQueary was still on staff, Bradley said "take that up with the interim AD"

Interesting quotes from an attorney advising the victims: http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/11/penn_state_board_of_trustees_g.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
A Harrisburg civil attorney who has been advising some of the alleged victims of former Penn State defensive coach Jerry Sandusky released a statement today about the board of trustees action last night firing coach Joe Paterno.
"The board of trustees got it wrong. They should have consulted the victims before making a decision on Mr. Paterno," Ben Andreozzi said. "They should have considered these victims watch TV and are aware of the students' reaction and may not want to be associated with the downfall of Mr. Paterno. The school instead elected to do what it felt was in its own best interest at the time. Isn’t that what put the school in this position in the first place?"

That can't be right BOT said they were acting in the best interest of the University and the victims.

Not meaning this to come out as cold as it will sound, but the BOT's responsibility is to the university, not the victims of this tragedy.gorocks99;966574 wrote:Interesting quotes from an attorney advising the victims: http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/11/penn_state_board_of_trustees_g.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
