If I'm Joe, I say screw you Spanier, I have to stay something as the most respected man in this University.
I'll resign before I let you call the shots like this and muzzle me.

I just couldn't imagine catching a co-worker of mine doing some kid in the office and only telling a manager about it or something. The office is no different than the locker room, it is the work area to these men! Any of us in the private sector that didn't stop this would be long gone and probably in jail ourselves!

We now know that Ohio State only has the 2nd worst PR and crisis management team in the Big 10. Holy schnikes.

Wow, Matt Millen in tears on Sportscenter trying to talk about the scandal.
It truly is that sickening, and thats why its incredible that no one is doing anything.

Haha I thought about posting something like this but I figured I'd get called a troll by OSU fans. I was going say man I thought OSU PR department was bad but Penn State RP makes OSU look decent.chicago510;963515 wrote:We now know that Ohio State only has the 2nd worst PR and crisis management team in the Big 10. PSU made the same mistake OSU did: they did not immediately hire a crisis communications consultant to guide them through the mess. No business or university is equipped to handle something like this; there is specific training you need to handle situations that are as sensitive as what PSU was facing.chicago510;963515 wrote:We now know that Ohio State only has the 2nd worst PR and crisis management team in the Big 10. Their first mistake was going forward with the weekly presser. They should have just cancelled it and said it was due to the legal issues. Instead, the aggravated everything by issuing an edict to the press that basically challenged them, saying we aren't going to answer any questions.
You don't do that with media; it's like putting steak in front of a rabid pit bull.
Now the Board has one option left to get ahead of this: immediately start cleaning house. Start with the president and then fire Paterno and McQueary for starters. Put someone in as interim coach who hopefully wasn't around for most of the past 20 years. If nobody like that exists, then pick someone you think will pass muster, but ONLY after talking to them.
If any of the remaining staff had even an inkling of this and didn't come forward, it will eventually come out. Reporters will be talking to all of their friends and associates to see if anyone said anything.
Once you've cleaned house, you then get your legal ducks in a row and at some point, you face the music and hold the press conference. You do a continuous mea culpa on all the issues at hand and pledge that things will be very different from now on.
You put in place safeguards that prevent such coverups in the future. Perhaps board members are mandated to be included in any police reports that relate to the university, so no one individual has the power to white wash events.
Since you've fired Paterno and McQueary, you let them and their attorneys handle any media stuff that may arise; they are no longer your employees or your problem.

Agree with all of this. Looks like Joe Pa will be the first to go.Writerbuckeye;963521 wrote:PSU made the same mistake OSU did: they did not immediately hire a crisis communications consultant to guide them through the mess. To reiterate: NYT is reporting that Joe Pa is gone within days or weeks. Exit strategy being planned now.
I wish I could say I'm shocked, but almost inevitable now.

Not 20 years, all coaches who have been on staff since 2002 should be let go. They were there when the sodomy in the shower occurred and the cover up began. Who knows what they knew or if they were involved in the coverup.
The attorney's for the AD and the VP of Business and Finance are being paid for by Penn State.

From the previous NYT article. The board voted Paterno out and he was asked to resign and he refused.

I am going the other way on this and say they beat Nebraska Saturday and wrap up the division. I will still root for the Nittany Lions, they have some great people on that team and they deserve my support.

The first report was in 1998 and was also covered up. I think you have to go back at least that far. It's hard to believe if people were around during all this, they hadn't heard anything. Especially in a close knit group like a coaching staff.Big Gain;963536 wrote:Not 20 years, all coaches who have been on staff since 2002 should be let go. So Paterno's done? Will he coach against Nebraska? Will the fans boo their legendary coach?

They can't. Losses to OSU and either of Wisky or Nebraska gives OSU the division.OneBuckeye;963541 wrote:How can they wrap up the division with a win on Saturday?

Penn State trustees have been looking for a reason for years. They didn't want him to drop dead on the practice field in the middle of a seasonchicago510;963524 wrote:Agree with all of this. Looks like Joe Pa will be the first to go.

I don't think OSU will win out. I would have said PSU would handle them easily prior to this, but now I am not sure they will even be in the game. It will depend on if the players can focus.
Paterno and McQueary will be gone, the rest of the staff will finish the season and then look for jobs in January. I see an entirely new staff next year. Maybe this is why Tom Bradley tried so hard for the Pitt job?
