Ursuline (2-6)
at Cardinal Mooney (5-2)
YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY
Friday Night | 7:30pm

Ursuline is in a must-win situation Friday Night to keep their playoff hopes alive. Mooney is pretty much a lock for the playoffs this season.

Who comes out on top?
-------------------------
I think it is going to be a rather low-scoring war Friday Night. Naturally hoping for my Irish to come out on top 17-14.

Mooney will roll big! Ursuline is nowhere near the team they were the last three years.

I have to say Ursuline has not a chance. But i will never ever say no team cant beat the big Dogs. I just watched a game yesterday that everybody and there mothers predicted a massive blow out. And the team came out and played like a demented step child. So with that I'm actually going to go with the upset. Ursuline is a few plays away from 4 and 4. But they will have make solid stops all night long. Quinn has to be stopped for Ursuline to get the win. Ursuline will not survive if Mooney gets up by more then 14. they dont have the offence to do so like before. Im going Ursuline 13 Mooney 9... yes i said that..

It's not going to be a blowout, but I think Mooney wins by 10.

With the exception of the Red Lion game, Ursuline has played everyone else really tough. Add in the rivalry, and the fact that Ursuline HAS to win to get a shot at the playoffs and it sure won't be an easy win for Mooney.

I think it comes down to the linemen...and I'd put my money on Turk and the boys from Mooney to set the tone and wear the Irish down.

It's ridiculousness that Ursuline is even THINKIN bout playoffs!! Thats what I hate about the computer system in this state!! You have two wins, going into week 9, its time to think about just finishing the season, and look to improve on things for next season.

With that said, I am pulling for whatever team Sherm roots for. :D

2 games hurt Ursuline's chances last week: Campbell beating Girard and Garaway beating Ridgewood... both were underdogs and will allow them to leapfrog Ursuline in the case they all win out. Even if Ursuline wins out they need help to get in... mainly from their beaten opponents, but also from a R17 losing in the last 2 weeks. It's no longer a win and they'll get in scenario for them.

I agree.. Ursuline will have to ask the gods to make the stars align just right for them to get in. The Campbell and Garaway just about killed there chances. One Campbell leapfrogged from 14 in there region two weeks ago to hosting a home game if they win out. They now sit in 4th and could even go to number 3 at the end. but if Ursuline wants the slim chance to get in they will need to worry about winning the next 2. Mooney will be a ton of points. not enough to get in the top 8 but will get them close enough if they win the last game and get the stars to align then who knows. It happened in 2009 with Campbell... and to be honest it was a lot worse in 2009 for Campbell they even packed it in for the season even after they won there last game cause they needed 5 teams to either win or lose and it came down to the steubenville central game on a saturday. I was there trust me.

You are 100% correct!

They need a Columbiana win over Springfield and an upset of one of the 6-7-8 seeds. If that happens, I think they sneak in at #8 if they win out. If it does not happen, Ursuline appears as though they may finish at #9.

I've watched these things before, stranger things have happened.

Bottom line, just beat Mooney!

Since they are a Catholic school, shouldn't they ask God to make the stars align just right for them, instead of "the gods".

Barnesville is the huckleberry. I don't think they will win out with games against Magnolia (WV) and Shadyside. Then Ursuline will be in a "beaten opponents" war with Salineville Southern for the 8th spot.

Gotta pull for Mooney on this one to end all this playoff talk. As said above, no way should a 2 win team even still be considered for the post season.

5. Columbiana: Expect them to beat Springfield, eliminating their playoff hopes, and then win against "Miseral" Ridge. They will be in.
6. Southern Local: Should roll over Lowellville, and barring an upset to Sebring, should win and be in.
7. Garaway: Should beat Newcomerstown, but will have a battle against Strasburg-Franklin, a D6 team that despite being 5-3, is better than their record indicates. Two of their three losses were by 7 in OT and by 5. If they win each, they should be in.
8. Barnesville: Play Mongolia out of WV. They each played and lost to Monroe Central of WV. Should be close, but they should be favored. The other game is the biggie in Week 10 vs. 5-3 Shadyside, who has won 4 of 5, with the lone loss coming to 7-0 Wheeling Central Catholic 34-20. They also played and lost to Monroe Central. Shadyside is the #3 team in D6, Region 21, despite the 5-3 record. If they do win that one, far from guaranteed, they are still not a lock as that will only get them 13.39. They will need some help from their opponents to get around 14.5 points (the number I am expecting the #8 seed to have). This team is one all Ursuline fans need to be watching if we were to win out. Even if they do win both games, looking at their possible L2 points, the only team I think has any chance of winning would be Caldwell over Shenandoah. Their other wins have very difficult schedules to finish out.
9. Springfield: They must beat Columbiana to have a chance. Not sure I like the Tigers shot. They each lost to Crestview, Columbiana 30-20, Springfield 49-0. Don't think they get by the Clippers, essentially ending their hopes.
10. St. Thomas Aquinas: Has a mammoth task against Canal Fulton Northwest, who just beat Canfield, and then Canton Central Catholic. They will be lucky win either of these games. Don't think they have a chance.
11. Rootstown: Win out and they still need virtually all of their opponents they beat to win. Outside looking in.
12. Cuyahoga Heights: A team to definitely watch at 7-1 right now. They are in must win mode against Beachwood and then Independence. If they take down 6-2 Beachwood, they have a very good shot at sneaking in and taking that #8 spot from any of the teams in the hunt because they should take down Independence. Ursuline needs CH to lose this week.
13-16: Don't see any of them having any chance.
17: Ursuline: Need to win out and really need Zanesville to take down a very good Cambridge team this week, then beat Marietta next week. Ursuline also needs SVSM to take down Buchtel and Mooney to beat Lake, which they should do. East Tech has no shot in their two games so the best the Irish can do is around 14.49 points it would appear:

So for Ursuline, they need Columbiana to beat Springfield (good chance), Garaway to lose to Strasburg-Franklin (decent chance), Barnesville to lose to Shadywide (decent chance), and/or Cuyahoga Heights to lose to Beachwood this week (decent chance). I would say they need 3 of these four results to occur, not necessarily all four.

Shall see what transpires!

cuyahoga heights is not losing to beechwood. thats the team that will make a huge jump the next two weeks. theyre going to pick up alot of secondary points. bottomline is this, you can speculate all you want but i think mooney is a bigger problem than worrying about teams losing. this game will come down to mooneys qb vs. ursulines qb, whoever makes less mistakes wins.

I hope the Cardinals remember last year and give Mr. Reardon a little payback. Putting up 60 would be fitting.
