They need to do something with the cost of college, forgiving student loans may not be that because honestly there isn't anyone who is going to be completely broken by the federal loans (they work with you on payment plans and such). And I believe after making your payments for 15 years or something like that the rest is forgiven anyway.

Hell no, student loans shouldn't be forgiven.
Hell yes, something needs done about the cost of college education. Part of the problem is being able to get the loans to begin with.

Yep, the govt has created a bubble in college tuitions. Big shocker. It truly is another business the govt doesn't need to be in. Making college "affordable" for a few has driven up the cost for everyone.WebFire;946152 wrote: Hell yes, something needs done about the cost of college education. Does this sound at all similar to another bubble the govt helped create? Govt needs to get out of the direct subsidy business period. I don't have issue with indirect subsidies via the tax codes, because I think that has helped some emerging industries in the past.

Why would you be shocked? This whole Occupy thing is the very well thought out re-election campaign of Mr. Obama and his staff. I hope they tear gas all of them and then beat the shit out of the ones that make it out. This just shows how much our president really cares about this country, he is willing to promote and support havoc on our streets for the sole purpose of getting re-elected a second term. Winter weather will be here soon and they can all freeze to death for this idiot.believer;946184 wrote:http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/10/26/exclusive-acorn-playing-behind-scenes-role-in-occupy-movement/

If a college gets too expensive, AND PEOPLE AREN'T PROMISED A JOB OR FORGIVENESS OF LOANS, I'd bank that fewer people attend said colleges. Drop in students = lost revenue for the college.
However, as long as people are told they have a safety net, they'll make decisions like they have a safety net.
I'm not sure how I feel about indirect subsidy (initially, I'm not thrilled at the idea), but I applaud the rest of this.gut;946174 wrote:Yep, the govt has created a bubble in college tuitions. I can understand (sort of) college age students who don't get it. But the NYU professor is a real gem:pmoney25;946113 wrote:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45040659/ns/us_news-life/
I cannot wait for this thing to end honestly. I appreicate the effort in trying to end Corporate Bail Outs and Crooked politicians but if these are the kind of ideas that are seriously being discussed then the 99% can GTFO
Also if you are complaining about being $60,000 in debt or higher, Go to a State School. Go to a community college for a couple years then finish out. Not really that difficult. If I had to do it over again, I would have went to the Regional OSU branch in mansfield for my first two years then went to OSU to finish out my last two.
Not to mention just because you have a degree doesn't mean you should be guaranteed a job. If you suck at interviewing or do not have the required skills necessary why should a company hire you over someone who does have the skills necessary to do the job.
What's heartbreaking is people with fully functioning brain cells thinking they can enter into a contract with someone (i.e. banks) and then feel free to violate that contract any time they please. Professor Idiot needs to be reminded that both those who loan money as well as those who accept loans (and voluntarily agree to the terms of the loan) have rights under the law.At a gathering last week in a public atrium a few blocks from the square that is home to the Occupy Wall Street encampment, New York University professor Andrew Ross led a discussion about the burden of student loan debt — now estimated to be between $550 billion and $829 billion — and proposed a radical solution: “A Pledge of Refusal.” The idea is that protesters would sign a pledge to stop making payments on their student loans as soon as 1 million had joined in making the pledge.
Ross told the crowd of about 50 people — ranging from current students to long-ago graduates — that while individuals are subject to heavy financial penalties if they stop paying on their student loans, a mass action by 1 million would make the banks take notice.
“There is a lot of talk about student debt, but no one takes any action, and that’s what Occupy Wall Street is about,” the professor of social and cultural analysis said.
'It's just immoral'
Ross acknowledged the irony of protesting against one of the main sources of his salary but added, “I feel very bad that my salary has actually been financed (by these debts). … To me it is just heartbreaking to see my students carry so much debt. It’s just immoral.”
How about Congress' response to both the Tea Party and OWS? If you like, we can list about a dozen quotes from Congressional Black Caucus members (along with the VP, Democrat party leaders, etc.) saying outrageous things about the Tea Party. I recall no such venom from Republican leaders directed toward OWS protestors.I Wear Pants;946193 wrote:Nice try to turn it into a "herp derp liberal media" thing, the media has been calling the OWS folks crazy, confused, etc.

I have watched you post on this site since I have joined and I know you are not naive to the real world, so why act that way now? I think anyone with any common sense can see where this is headed with Obama and the Occupy people, a united front against anyone that doesn't agree with Obama and his policies. He is using this to try and push his disaster of a jobs bill and his re-election down our throats. I have been involved with businesses and implementing policies for many years and know how this works, he is just doing it on a grander scale but with the same goal as any other successful business. He wants to push bills that he knows will never pass and ones that he really doesn't want passed, knowing that he can put a show on for the little people while still protecting his buddies.I Wear Pants;946205 wrote:I found this sweet picture of you.

That is insane.
Most of the Occupy people are not happy with Obama's performance. You, and Republicans seem to think that the OWS is a "Democrats yelling in the street" thing, it isn't. Turning it away like it's a bunch of insanity is not going to be a good move for the Republicans. Just like doing the same to the Tea Party was a bad idea for the Democrats.

"dangerous", "mobs", "pitting americans against Americans", "fringe group", "dangerous", etc. Bunch of stuff trying to make all the OWS protesters seem like overpriviledged college kids/hippies/unclear in their purpose/everyone of them is naked/etc.O-Trap;946236 wrote:I don't think I've heard TOO many Congressional Republicans address them. And the mainstream media (Fox, NBC, MSNBC, etc) hate the OWS protests because they are protesting the very thing they represent, a few giant corporations controlling the narratives presented through our news outlets to serve their purposes.

I'm not sure how a bunch of feces-covered pot smoking cretins qualify as "dangerous." I don't see what all the fuss is about...I for one will be sad when the weather turns cold and they scatter.

you do realize the protestors(ok not all, but some or most) want this to happen right? so i think its equally messed up that they put their fellow protestors in this position just to become a pawn in this whole thing. so far from what i have noticed is this type of protestor/police behavior isnt an issue in the smaller cities. different mentality?I Wear Pants;946077 wrote:
The part here I find disturbing is when people go to help someone who has fallen down or injured themselves. And the damn police think it's a great idea to throw flashbangs into the crowd. Abhorrent.
