That said though, you can't blame them for giving it the ole college try, but the fact remains they won't be eating a piece of this pie no matter how hard they try. The 16 team format proposed by Mountain westers...too many. I guess hoping against hope one of them would miraculously slip in. I get it but give me a break.
Well hey, we know they deserve the same shot as everyone else. I mean, look at how that two-time undefeated BCS-busting real deal Utah program is tearing up.....oh wait.

I am hearing Memphis is gaining traction in Big East, thanks to BE hoops concerns, to replace WVU. In convo with Temple.

I thought the reason Temple was passed over originally was because Nova and other BE schools didn't want them.

But what would happen of the schools w/ football? The Louisville's, RU's, USF's, UC's, and UCONN's?

They gotta go somewhere?

I posted this earlier, but if I were to guess:

UCONN, RU-ACC
UC, UL- C-USA
USF-??

The AD at BC doesn't want Uconn to get into the ACC. He said they tried to prevent them from getting in and now they want in themselves. I don't think one guy would be able to stop their entrance, but you have to figure the ACC probably wasn't too pleased when they tried to put a kibosh on the move the last time.

Big East needs to be selective about who they invite. I'd invite Houston, Boise, SMU (bank on them "getting back"), Temple, Navy, and UCF. None of those schools bring much to the table for basketball and Boise would be the only 'great get' for football. Everybody is just okay and would add a little depth to the conference.

Per Rick Pitino, Big East should add Memphis and Temple as all sports members. Also, WVU leaving Big East is not necearrily a done deal at this time.

According to a Post source, the Big East held a secretive meeting on Sunday in Washington, D.C. in which officials at five of the members hoping for invitations met with several current members to openly discuss all issues. The parties agreed to invite Air Force, Boise State, Central Florida, Houston, Navy and SMU to join for the 2013 season. Air Force, Boise State and Navy would join in football-only. Central Florida, Houston and SMU would join as all-sports members

Yeah, BC does not want UConn in the ACC, but BC is arguably the weakest member (possibly more weak than Wake) and if the ACC wants UConn/Rutgers, BC can't stop it. UConn would be a great add for men's/women's basketball, and Rutgers has a very good overall athletic program even if their football/basketball programs have been lacking. Those additions would solidify the ACC as the best basketball conference, the dominant lacrosse conference and stretch the entire east coast.

Rutgers is not scared. Because they have some stuff:
Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti said the school remains confident that when the carousel stops, the school will be in a good position. "While there is going to be a period of time between now and then that will cause our constituents and fans a certain level of anxiety, given the unique assets we possess, including our strong and growing academic profile, our AAU status and the location and high level of interest surrounding Rutgers in the nation's largest television market, we feel confident in the end result for Rutgers," he said in a statement.

Pernetti is really good at what he do...I'm confident he'll get something done.

If he doesn't, well fuck.

The Navy AD has been very clear that the only way they accept an invite is if it's for football only.

Apparently hard lobbying by Louisville to the Big 12 may have thrown the wrench in on the WVU thing. Collegefootballtalk has the article.

Not sure, but it has seemed for awhile as though Navy was kind of separate from the pack anytime this expansion was discussed. It seems like the other five were actively pursuing membership, while the Big East was doing more of the courting when it comes to Navy.

There's truth to that. Navy has certainly not pursued the Big East but the Big East has come after Navy relentlessly.

The buzz about Rutgers is laughable. They'll be in the same place they are right now when this is all said and done.
