The defending national champions have a lot of new faces, but have high expectations again. Started off the season with a 5-0 victory over Cleveland State at home, which was also the only team to defeat them last year. They also have a draw against Cal St. Fullerton, a 2-1 victory over Cal St. Northridge, and a 4-0 win over St. Louis.

If you are interested in checking them out, they play #16 New Mexico tonight at 7pm at home. The game will also be shown live on Fox Soccer Channel.

Yeah I sort of expected the beating against CSU after what happened last year. Though my brother is done playing for CSU so I didn't care as much.

I love the style of soccer that Akron plays though, hopefully more colleges pick that up.

Love Akron soccer and the way they play (when it isnt at the expense of IU). I was very pleased they got over the PK meltdown in 2010 and were able to take the 2011 crown. I doubt they repeat, with so much lost. But they have a ton of talent so they will be fine. Just dont see the experience for another Tourney run. I say last 8 and bounced by someone.

Yeah, they tied 1-1 last night. New Mexico scored a late goal after Mattocks got red carded. He is one of the best players in the country but is a head case. The team is still very good, and i expect them to make some noise, but I just dont see another championship this year.Hopefully I am wrong. What was it..5 of the top 10 taken in the draft was from Akron, thats losing a lot of talent.

It was ridiculous. I believe it was 5/8 and 7 players overall (in first 2 rounds)

2, 3, 4, 7, 8

On an unrelated note :laugh:, Indiana had the 10 and 11 picks.

Not all of those kids drafted were seniors right? Akron has been unreal the last 2 years, this year I think they are just very good.

No. In fact, Darlington Nagbe (first selected) didnt even start all 3 years he was at Akron.
