Tigers traded some garbage for Fister. Check out his 3.17 ERA. The tribe traded Pomeranz and White for Jiminez...and his 5.27 ERA. Fister makes $436,500 per year and Jiminez makes 2.8 million.
Good luck to the Tigers....I hope they win the whole damn thing.
Sure are missing Alex White and his 7+ ERA with Colorado right now. Convenient that you left that out, though.

It's not Ubaldo's fault we lost tonight. People are looking for someone to blame and he's been the victim because we traded away two promising PROSPECTS.

The fact is, too many injuries and not enough offense did us in. Ubaldo pitched a very good game tonight. He pitched well enough to win. Doug Fister chopped out pathetic line up to pieces.

Fact is, our ownership isn't spending 100 million on our roster like Detroit's.

My post was comparing Fister with Juminez...and what we traded away. I get it. You still think Ubaldo is the next coming. His stats over 6 years say otherwise.

lol at blaming Ubaldo for this loss. bases loaded and your best player up and he Ks. But its Ubaldos fault for throwing one bad pitch that resulted in the difference maker...3 damn runs at home.

You and Hoops can't read....I never blamed Ubaldo for today's loss. For Ubaldo, he pitched better than he usually does.

Where did I say YOU PERSONALLY blamed Ubaldo? However, you constantly putting his stats out there proves that you are blaming him for something, no?

And you can't dispute facts, Alex White has gotten shelled in both his starts with the Rocks... At least Ubaldo has had a few gems for us.

I am not going to put any stock into what Ubaldo has done THIS season. He was injured early in the year and wasn't himself, then he gets traded to the American league where he is facing new hitters and teams that he is not really used to. What I am excited for is getting him 100% healthy again and let him work that arm back to full strength next spring.

Our pitching will be solid next year and with the addition of a few new bats in the lineup, 2012 is going to be real fun!

Here is a question for you, who is our 2012 opening day starter....Jimenez or Masterson?

I dont hate Ubaldo. I hate that Im 100% positive we could have had Pence, and probably a little more for what we gave up instead of Ubaldo. That would have made this team a lot better imo.

Masterson, without question. He has earned it this season.

Easy, Masterson.

But it's a good situation to have.

Exactly, we have a very strong rotation that can do a lot of damage if the offense gives them a little support.

you are comparing Fister and Jimenez why? whats that have to do with the price of milk in china? you are one of those people who assume every team out there was actually willing to trade with the Indians. if Seattle had no interest in anyone in the tribe organization, why would they trade him to us even if we wanted him?

Ubaldo Jiminez's career

3.73 ERA
58-46 record
811 K's
1.30 WHIP

Yeah, what exactly is that saying again?

Not to mention that he's only 27.

In 7 starts with the Tribe, he's struck out 46 batters to 14 walks. He and Masterson will be a dynamite combo for us.

I will say that for this year....Detroit's acquisitions at the deadline look genius. Young and Fister have played out of their asses.

...and ours look weak. You have to credit the front office for getting a team who stood no chance at the beginning of the season, into contention and playing meaningful games in September. But, in a sense, they mirrored the team's season...just not good enough to get it done. The 'moves' to strengthen this team were too little, too late, and not the right (as in Right handed hitter) ones. Essentially they need a strong right handed hitter in mid/late June or even early in July when we had a solid lead. Instead, they let Detroit catch up and they frittered away their advantage.

That is normally the pitcher's advantage.

A friend of mine who is a Tigers fan just emailed me this:

Here’s how it plays out..

Detroit has 21 games left, the Indians 24. If 86 games wins an average division, the Indians would have to finish 16-8, and hope the Tigers falter to 7-14 ... just to tie. If the Tigers merely play around .500 and go 11-10, the Indians would have to go 20-4 -- just to tie. And if Detroit falls apart and goes 4-17 (highly unlikely given the anchor of their pitching staff is 21-5), the Indians would still need to be above .500 at 13-11 -- just to tie.
Cleveland talked about it not being over. And it’s not. Officially, at least.

But on Wednesday, the Tigers will send Justin Verlander to the mound to face the Indians, and they will send Verlander to the mound every fifth day after that game

I'm still not sure why we didn't try for Delmon Young.

Young OF who showed he had power last season.

Agreed.

But I will say that I think Jimenez is something in between what we are seeing now and his 15-1 start last year. His start last year was a fluke, just like Fausto's 2007 season. He's a good #2 or #3 but FAR from an ace.

Masterson is easily the #1 starter next year. The real question is who are the #4 and 5 starters (assuming Masterson, Tomlin, and Jimenez as your top 3)? It would be nice if Huff has finally figured out how to retire big league hitters and this isn't just a mirage, because we could use a left-hander somewhere in the rotation. Talbot was awful this year, and Fausto and Carrasco have both been underwhelming to say the least, so I don't think any of them are locks.

Offense is clearly a much bigger concern though. Huge holes at catcher/1st depending on where Carlos plays, 2nd (although Kipnis looked good in limited playing time), 3rd, at least 1 outfield spot, and DH.

I would say Druby, Santana, and Choo are the only sure things going forward. Brantley was nothing more than average, but I guess you could include him as a 4th. After that it's a mess.

Don't have to worry about Carrasco. As I mentioned in the Royals thread, he's about to have Tommy John Surgery, so he's out at least a year.

Somebody asked Jordan Bastian on twitter why potential problems didn't arise during CC's trade to us and he answered in regards to that, @MLBastian:Not giving MRIs during trades is normal. The only player in 5-player Ubaldo trade to undergo full physical exam (MRI included) was Ubaldo.

I actually had no idea he was hurt that badly.

It's weird, at the beginning of the year I thought this team would win around 75 games and contend next year. Now the team contended for long stretches this year, but I'm actually less optimistic about what we have going forward.
