September 1st starts a new chapter in my life. I am leaving printing, and going back to HVAC, full time. I started taking a class last Wednesday, Gas Technology, in Valley View. 18 weeks one night a week.
On August 31st, I will end an 8 year run in the printing industry, where I did everything from Screen Printing (including pre-press), CNC Routing (building POS POP displays for major Fortune 500 companies), to Digital Printing. I was fortunate to learn alot in my 8 years, but it was a dead end job, with no chance to move up in title or pay. It was literally just a job. I fear that MCA has become the Titanic of the print industry. What used to be a great company to work for, is sinking quick, and leads to my decision to get out while I can.
From 2004 to late 2008, I worked both at MCA and hvac. 16 hour days for 4 years took its toll on me and my family, so I got out of the hvac end, and decided to stay at MCA. When MCA tried to make a move to South Carolina, sh*t hit the fan, and has gone down hill fast. The SC plant went up in a ball of flames (literally) and the owners came slinking back to Massillon. While the Massillon plant never fully shut down, it ran a skeleton crew, while they tried to make SC work, well that never happened. Things have gotten bad, which has led to my decision to get out.
HVAC presents more opportunities, pay wise, and company movement wise. Better pay per hour, better working conditions, paid schooling, etc.
So, while I enjoyed my time at MCA Industries and the knowledge I gained from it, I am excited to be starting a new adventure in the world of Cooling and Heating.
Let the "cool story, bro" comments begin. I know no one cares, I just had to let it all out.
