Keep digging. You'll be in Ty Webb territory soon.
Have you even remotely followed this story? This is quite possibly the biggest scandal in college football history, even eclipsing SMU.

se-alum;866408 wrote:This isn't as bad as the SMU scandal. They were paying recruits to attend SMU, as well as setting up the parents with homes and jobs. Allegedly, Miami payed 1 recruit in the basketball program, and I haven't seen any evidence of them paying football recruits. It seems like the relationships were forged after the players were on campus, although I'm sure some recruits knew what was going on, and came to Miami for the perks.
j_crazy;866451 wrote:lulz. to my knowledge there are only about 2 U of Miami fans on this site, neither has posted here, and it's still turned into an e-fight.
IMHO some of the OSU fans were too happy to have this story break, but the non-OSU fans are taking it to another level.
I agree that some of this shit is probably false, but what's true is still likely to be more damning than anything that OSU was even accused of. Especially if there is proof that any of the coaches were involved or knew anything. Either way, I'm happy that the microscope is off of OSU, not happy that another program was breaking rules and will likely get in trouble. I just want fair reporting on these things and we're not getting it from anyone. Yahoo, ESPN, or any of the other media outlets have devoted 95% of their time to these 2 scandals, with several way more important (IMO) scandals getting overlooked.

What is the angle there?
And I'd appreciate a little more respect, considering you can't even put a "put" instead of a "but".
Troll.

karen lotz;866463 wrote:Yes, they pretty much had a payroll with players on contract. They didn't pay anymore players coming into the program, but for everyone they were already paying they continued. They were afraid if they stopped, those people would squeal to the NCAA and it would be an even bigger ****storm.
enigmaax;866480 wrote:Yes - they had two different cases. They were punished for the first and the case was closed. They kept going and got caught again. Repeat offender = Death Penalty.
That is why I don't think it'll even be on the table for Miami (even if the NCAA wasn't gun shy about that particular penalty). It was never about how much they gave or for how long they were giving it. It wasn't even about who was involved (President, AD). It was entirely about already being on probation and being caught again. Miami is going to get hammered, but it is still only one case.
j_crazy;866619 wrote:yeah but they were sanctioned in 2003 for a baseball thing (just outside the window of the pell grant fiasco), and shapiro started his thing in 2002 and never stopped for the 5 year grace period. to me that screams repeat offender if they can prove anything. we will wait and see how the NCAA handles this and what they find and can prove.
http://miami.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1253198"Sources have told CaneSport that shortly after he was named to replace Larry Coker in 2007 that Shannon threatened his coaching staff with firings if they ever dealt with Shapiro and warned his players about Shapiro multiple times in team meetings during his four-year coaching tenure."
"When asked by CaneSport to confirm the details provided by another source in attendance for Shannon's talks at the team meetings, a former Miami football staffer no longer employed by the school responded "Absolutely" when asked if he remembered Shannon specifically telling Miami players to stay away from Shapiro."
"Shannon's rejection of Shapiro was a touchy issue for former athletic director Kirby Hocutt and individuals responsible for fund raising because Shannon refused to even talk to Shapiro, who for some time could be counted on to write big checks to the department."
Shapiro would constantly call anybody in the athletic department that would listen and launch into blistering, profanity-laced and racially-charged tirades at the perceived lack of respect he was being shown by the head coach.
