The Yahoo writer says he has 2nd and 3rd sources for everything in the article. He says he has twice as much stuff that he doesn't have 2nd sources for yet. Shapiro has 1000's of pictures, credit card receipts and canceled checks. This is just the beginning.

I was listening to the podcast of yesterday's SVP show (it was Gottleib), and I think he was talking to the Yahoo guy. They asked about how truthful all of this is. Apparently while there may not be stuff to 100% back up EVERYTHING Shapiro said, there is absolutely no evidence that makes him look like a liar (and this guy is a professional liar, he's a Ponzi schemer!) They said they went in assuming everything was a lie and would have to be proven otherwise, and came out pretty convinced.

I heard the same interview ts. That is pretty much exactly what Robinson said.

This is an extremely long article, so I just skimmed through it. This guy went through every single allegation and found reasons why Yahoo! might just be full of crap. Of the 72 players accused, he claims the number should be more like 12. Gives his reasons that Crime U won't get the death penalty, which were already discussed on this thread. For one, this guy has entirely way too much time on his hands. I don't care if it's 5, 8, 12, 48, 72, or 8000 - Miami is in serious trouble. Even if there's only 12 players that are "violation worthy", the severity of the violations are still enough to cripple the university.

Some of this stuff is funny and does provide good points.

Not only does this evidence have NOTHING to do with the accusations Yahoo! made (of which they offer no direct evidence), but the phone records are from AFTER Phillips left Miami.

The dirty little reporting trick Yahoo! played time and again was to claim they used evidence to corroborate Shapiro’s claims. And, in some instances, they absolutely did. But, in instances (as with the abortion claim) where Yahoo! had no evidence other than the word of the felon, they printed the accusation anyway. This allowed Yahoo! to claim that they had fully vetted claims that they had not. In the alleged abortion incident, not even the player would know of his involvement (Shapiro claimed to have never informed the player), yet Yahoo! felt it was fit to print that accusation.

On 5 occasions, Yahoo! printed accusations against players with no evidence whatsoever other than Shapiro’s word.

On 19 occasions, Yahoo! printed an accusation against a player and corroborated that accusation with a credit card charge. Yahoo! had NO WAY of actually linking those charges to the players other than Shapiro’s word. This is akin to me telling a reporter that I bought a TV for Tim Tebow in 2008, and as proof, I have my Discover Card statement with a charge at Best Buy. Except in Yahoo!’s case, their use of this non-evidence is even worse because the source is a known liar who is admittedly trying to get the school in trouble.

He may be a "liar" when it comes to certain allegations, but like I said - you can pick any 2-3 players you want out of the "12" and it's still enough to smack Miami pretty hard. And like what was said earlier, the NCAA is now looking beyond the statue of limitations window.

Let's say Shapiro only releases the names of those who fit inside the window, then out of the 12, you only find Moss and Gooden violation worthy. Does the NCAA then dig further? They seem to rely on this guys word too much and that is why they are choosing to actually dig further.

He has obviously said more than enough crap, but in this case the "liar" characteristic is a lot different than say, some guys who are in prison for selling drugs. This guy isn't just a liar, he's a professional liar. His ability to lie helped him accumulate 930 MILLION DOLLARS over the years. That's a pretty good liar. I would personally love to see Miami, um, cease to exist and I think they'll get hit hard, but when it all shakes out I'll doubt that most of the things listed will be in the realm of consideration for the NCAA.

They'll get hit harder than anyone else has in recent memory, but it won't be SMU-esque. The paper trail will kill them but the nature of the violations isn't as bad as we all would like. Players weren't stuffing their mattresses, they rode some boats, had a few cocktails and shit.
