I used to listen to talk radio a year or so ago. I listened to Wilkow and Levin sometimes. But, I got tired of it really fast. Too angry for me, too much crying wolf and leaping to conclusions.
Now, its all ESPN radio in the morning or Morning Joe on XM. (Morning Joe being the really only political show I can stand)

Sports or Dave Ramsey for me. I tried some of the political rhetoric shows but it was too much. Felt like driving my car over a cliff at times.

The shows are all about ratings. If that means stretching the truth or trying to make something controversial, then they do it.

I haven't read this entire thread, and I don't think I've listened to more than 5 minutes of talk radio in my life...but these programs are ENTERTAINMENT and not meant to be news sources.

If people actually use them as news sources, then they are guilty of not showing good judgment.

Using them to help develop opinions on issues AFTER you've done the fact checking is fine; as is enjoying them for the entertainment aspects.

I found them too frantic and angry in just the few minutes I tried listening; I want something a lot calmer coming at me if I'm driving or have something on in the background.

I rarely hear him say much of anything that justifies labeling him a buffoon and the man does do his homework.

If he's telling whoppers, the lies are based on factual information from solid sources. Fact is Limbaugh has the #1 talk radio program in the nation for a reason. I rarely listen to the radio at all, anymore. I get most of my news from checking various web sites each day ranging from the Washington Post to blog sites like Big Government, and a lot in-between.

For listening, I tend toward music nowadays.

Oh and doggie, Fox News (the actual news part where they do reporting and not commentators like Hannity) has actually been found to be less biased than pretty much all the other MSM sources, like CBS (worst), NBC, ABC, CNN, and especially MSNBC. That was one of the findings of the UCLA study a few years ago, I believe, and has been verified by periodic studies by the Media Research Center (yes, yes, they are slanted to the right for purposes of full disclosure).

I primarily listen to 97.1 The Fan. I listen to Mike & Mike in the mornings and The Common Man & The Torg in the afternoons on the way home from work.

I have listened to Rush probably half a dozen times in my life. Usually I turn it off after a few minutes because it's so frustrating. I'm a right-leaning moderate who generally supports the Tea Party movement, but Rush is unabashed in his desire to take the truth, sensationalize it, and then stretch it as far as possible. That resonates with people the same way that the National Enquirer resonates with people--it's entertainment, and for politics, it gets people fired up. My impression is that most of what Rush says is technically accurate, but there are many different ways to present facts as part of a narrative that supports one's position, and that's what much of the media does (e.g., listen to Rush on the debt deal, and then watch The Daily Show. They're both relaying the same information about the same facts, yet the difference in outlook is incredible).

In my experience, national written media aimed at white collar professionals tends to be better informed and more balanced (I'm thinking of things like The Economist, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and to a lesser extent things like The Washington Post). Many of those organizations publish podcasts, which can fill the void for news without requiring you to read a lot.

If you're open to reading, news aggregators like Google can provide a wide swath of news from the web. By presenting thousands of different sources addressing the same issues, it's possible to counteract some of the spin and get a good idea of the underlying facts.

I recenlty had a discussion with a friend of mine about this...

I tried to listen to Savage EDIT: I meant Ed Schultz... not Savage... Didn't work for me. Between his personality and my disliking of his views, I turned it off. Same with Stephanie Miller. Even more so for her.

As for the right... HATE!!!! Hannity. He is the biggest whiner of them all. Sometimes I hear his show due to my ride home being when he's on... I think I'd rather hear paint dry.

Glenn Beck = whatever, dude. Highly conspirital. Me typing this is probably somehow tied into me either a) being a Jew or b) being a Nazi.

As for the BIG VOICE on the right: I dig his economics. Can't stand his missing of something critical, that being, it appears that HE has done or is doing the same thing he accuses some in society of doing and that is playing the victim card. He doesn't want to talk about the Harvard study because it verified the work of UCLA. Interesting that neither of those entities are considered conservative (by a long shot) and yet came to the same conclusion in their work: liberal media bias is very real.

I have listened to him maybe 3 times on the last 5 years. I listened to him every day for years....back in the late 80's...early 90's. The man is a liar. A fraud....a hypocrite to the nth degree. His show is a propaganda machine. His show is popular because of it's shock value.
