Boy, it sure would be hard to hire a guy who has never coached before. His first coaching job is a head coach of a professional team? I think I'd have issues with that as a fan. Get a year or so under the belt assisting.

I understand he's played at the top, but there's a lot of things he still hasn't done in order to be prepared for that responsibility.

He's a legend though. And in England (I realize we might be different in the US) it happens a decent amount. Roy Keane, Paul Ince, and a few others have done it recently.

Also, we could possibly get him to player manager which would be bad-ass

You want to use those two as examples? :)

Roy Keane had a terrible run with Sunderland...and then a HORRIBLE run with Ipswich Town. Paul Ince was basically done in his last 2ish seasons playing. And...neither has really been successful. Does that show some validity? Just because it happens doesn't mean it should. I would venture in saying, it's not a bad idea to get some assisting in before actually being the head coach -- at any level.

I know it was rumored to be happening, but this is freaking AWESOME that it has been announced and set in stone.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1200883/u.s.-to-host,-participate-in-2016-copa-america?cc=5901

We have the US Hosting and Participating in Copa America and then immediately following we have the 2016 Euros (assuming Euro is early June - first few days in July again.

Plus World Cup and then CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2014/15 respectively. Cant freaking wait for that summer of soccer.

News about EPL rights.

Well, it seems that ESPN/FOX have lost the EPL rights for the next three years. With the loss of Serie A, MLS, EPL, and The Championship, this seems to be a crushing blow for FSC.

Now, out of the final two, it would not be too bad if NBC gets the rights, I think. If they were to actually show the sport on NBC during the season, I think it would be pretty swell. I'm not too big on beIN getting the rights. As a hardcore fan, I get the channel (so that's not the problem), and I think hardcore fans would switch to TV providers who provide the channel. However, it'd be bad for the casual viewer of soccer and building the fan base.

Lastly, regarding ESPN, they only have the MLS, World Cup 2014, Euro 2016, and a random exhibition games left on the docket. It's kinda disappointing as I think ESPN has done a good job producing a quality soccer presentation.

I'd much rather NBC get the rights than beIN as well, and agree with your assessment of beIN. I don't see a lot of the casual fans switching providers just to get beIN and NBCSN has a pretty good penetration.

You know it's bad when someone actually wants NBCs abysmal sports department to win rights

It'll be interesting to see how they do it. I'm sure most of the games will be on NBCSN but maybe we'll get lucky and get some big matchups on NBC?

reat news, I think. I think NBCSN has more of a distribution than FSC, and NBC will actually show the matches on their main network!

Good win for both, the Red Devils and the Crew!

Now, it's time for Crew to sit back and see what they need to do for 2013. They need some changes in personnel AND figure out how to get fans.

The MLS averaged 2.64 goals per game this year. Currently, the EPL averages 2.84 in the short season they've had thus far.

The MLS also shattered their attendance marks, they totaled over 6 million fans for the first time ever. Overall average was 18,801 fans per game in the 323 regular season matches. Attendance saw an increase of 5.22% from 2011 to 2012. There were also 108 sellouts all season long. Portland has had two-straight sellout seasons!

Not bad signs for the MLS.

Just saw this...the MLS average attendance figure of 18,807 is a higher average attendance than France's Ligue 1!

That's awesome!

There have been 7.4 million copies of FIFA13 sold in 4 weeks. In the first five days, 4.5 million copies were sold.

Could be considered the "biggest sports launch of all-time."

There's a new NPSL team in Ohio...I'll give more info as I am allowed to.

Great news, and a huge step!

EDIT:
It's public now...
