Qualifier is at 6:30pm tomorrow...almost a today!

Cannot wait, but probably will be out recruiting. I need to stop at a sports bar to watch it. Hopefully I have a local game to check out.

Oops, you're right. ESPN2. For some reason I thought I saw it on ESPN on my cable guide but just looked online and it is indeed ESPN2.

Qualifiers all day long...not good for getting anything done.

Russia v. Azerbaijan now.

I was wrong in my earlier assessment, the U.S. can feasibly still go home with a loss to Guatemala on goal differential to Jamaica:
U.S. Win
  • U.S. wins Group A with 13 points and qualifies for Final Round
  • Guatemala finishes with 10 points and must await result of Jamaica-Antigua
U.S. Tie
  • U.S. finishes tied with Guatemala atop Group A with 11 points and both countries qualify for Final Round
U.S. Loss AND Jamaica Tie or Loss
  • Guatemala wins Group A with 13 points and qualifies for Final Round
  • U.S. finishes in second place in Group A with 10 points and qualifies for Final Round
  • Jamaica finishes in third place (with 7 or 8 points) and does not qualify for Final Round
U.S. Loss AND Jamaica Win
  • Guatemala wins Group A with 13 points and qualifies for Final Round
  • U.S. and Jamaica finish tied on points with 10 each and qualified team is determined with tiebreakers (see below)
TIEBREAKERS: Here are the tiebreakers if two teams are equal in points:
  • a) Greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
  • b) Goal difference in all group matches; (US currently +3; Jamaica currently 0)
  • c) Greatest number of goals scored in all group matches; (US currently 8, Jamaica currently 5)

Also, in CONCACAF news, Honduras is pounding Canada 6-0 and should advance along with Panama (currently down 1-0 to Cuba) out of Group C.

Why the crap didn't Howard come out there? Bad defending.

I don't think a single Guatemala defender moved on that corner.

Attacking looks solid, defense is ... well ... on the field, at least. I'll definitely take 3-1!

I want to bus uppercut Alexi Lalas, even when he's giving us props, I still can't stand him. He irks the hell out of me.

The Hex:

USA
Jamaica
Mexico
Costa Rico
Honduras
Panama

Home-and-homes will run from February 5 through October 15 and the top three teams qualify for Brazil 2014, with the fourth going to a playoff against the winner of Oceania qualifiers.

16 points is the amount of points that got the third place team to the last two WCs from the hex, so I think that we can assume it'll be the minimum for us this time around, too.

I think that 15 points at home is not asking too much, though chances are we'll drop a couple points and get either 11 or 13. If we drop more than that, I fear for our qualification (which shouldn't happen). All we need is a win or two on the road and minimize the losses (if we only lose at Azteca, that'd be awesome), and we're good to go.

As it is though, the Hex scares me.

Tough Hex. All the best teams from CONCACAF have made it through. I think we are all fighting for 2nd behind the Mehicanos.

If El Salvador had made it over Honduras, we are looking at the top 6 in Fifa rankings all there. Instead we have...
1 Mexico
2 USA
4 Jamaica
5 Panama
6 Costa Rica
7 Honduras

Thats pretty crazy. One of the toughest Hex we have seen. No one who is a true outlier. I wouldnt be shocked if any of the 6 go through.
