Smart decision to be proactive, but I would think it's still going to cost them some scholarships.

It may spare them the postseason ban if they are lucky, IMO.

Vacating wins has no affect on anything but the record books, I imagine a few schollies will be gone as well.

Good.

Now we can move on and continue to win football games and set the standard for excellence in the classroom. We're still 100000x the program ND/Michigan/Random SEC team will ever be.

What a freaking joke. Vacate wins and that is all? Maybe if they would have fired Tressel. But to allow him to retire and pay him, and then try to say you disassociated is as pathetic as Tressel's original presser.

That is all? The NCAA still has to make a ruling. There is more to come.

I don't. This had nothing to do with recruiting. None should be lost.

I am seeing on all the sites that OSU is vacating "2010 wins" ... does that include the Sugar Bowl (in 2011)? Can't find a straight answer yet.

Yes. First line of the story on ESPN...
Ohio State has vacated all of its football wins from the 2010 season, including its 2011 Allstate Sugar Bowl victory.

I believe it does include the 2011 sugar bowl.

I don't expect any further punishment and would be absolutely shocked if any additional punishment includes a bowl ban. Maybe a few scholarships will be lost, but we'll be playing in a bowl game, and likely it will be for a championship(which the haters will be pissed about because their team will be playing in the Upstairs Medical College Bowl sponsored by Toilet Paper Inc, and Papa Johns).

Yes, I see that now, when I checked the first time it wasn't there.

My first reaction was "Why would OSU voluntarily do this?" ... but then reality set in: this is just the beginning, particularly if OSU is doing this as a token gesture to the NCAA. I wish I would share sleeper's optimism here, but I am feeling the polar opposite way ...

You will almost always see self-imposed sanctions in situations like this. I am not surprised at all.

I expect the NCAA to reduce some scholarships but I don't really expect a bowl ban. I kind of wish we would of imposed 3 less schollys for 3 years just to set the tone. It would be retarded for us to self impose a 1 year bowl ban considering that would probably be the max we get.

Agreed, but was surprised by vacating the bowl win, as the NCAA allowed those players to play that game.

I don't think the NCAA will issue a bowl ban, nor do I think the all-mighty BCS will allow it. The Ohio State Buckeyes are one of the best, if not THE best traveling football fan bases in all of college football.

I don't expect much more. There were alot of media outlets spewing allegations, and NONE of it was proven. Tressel and Pryor are gone, and the 2010 season is gone, other than a couple of schollies, I don't see much else happening.

I'm surprised too. I think it is just the university saying "we don't want any of this dirtyness" trying to lessen any blows even further. I don't think the NCAA would have forced them to vacate the Sugar Bowl.
