So I'm writing a paper on the emphasis of athletics at my college and in general and was wondering what some Huddlers thought. Is there too much attention being paid? is there not enough?

My school is a Division III institution that is suffering from severe financial difficulties and sagging enrollment and has only 2 or 3 programs(including mine) that are successful year in and year out in competition.

any thoughts? i know this is obviously not Division I but I figured maybe some Huddlers could offer me some good ideas

Sorry I can't add much insight, but I've noticed that some schools like Hofstra and Northeastern are cutting football. I wonder how much Title IX is impacting the direction of cuts in athletic programs. Might be an interesting chapter to add.

What's your thesis? It might be easier to comment if we knew what you are actually trying to say.

I played D2 basketball and would love to give you some insight. I think D2 is very unique in that it's not going to be revenue generating like a D1 and isn't in place solely for name recognition and to create revenue like D3.

In D2, they don't make the revenue, yet offer the scholarship money. I was on a full ride, yet it was obvious that the athletic department operated in the red, as I'm sure most all D2's do.

Give me your thesis and some ideas you would want touched on, and I'd love to provide more to you.

The thing is my paper doesn't really have a thesis, i'm not trying to prove one way or another whether or not there is too much or not enough emphasis

In America there is to much emphasis on sports in general so I don't see why it would change at that level.

Here's what I think.

1. Don't start a new topic sentence with the word "so".

2.. "In America there is to much emphasis on sports in general so I don't see why it would change at that level. "

I agree with this but I would add that I believe there is too much of a focus on entertainment and being entertained and the world of sports, even at the collegiate level, plays a role in that industry.
