I've had a BlackBerry for five years now and love them. I doubt there is a better kind of phone out there. Unfortunately, though, I'm going to have to start paying my own phone bill soon. With the data package, the BlackBerry bills can be high.

Does anyone have or had a Moto Q? I was thinking it might be a good alternative. Is the bill for it like a regular cell phone or are there data packages for it too?

I have the Moto Q9c from Verizon and I love it. As far as I know you have to have a data plan. Mine is unlimited for $30 a month but I think it's more now.

There probably aren't as many apps for the Q but there are enough. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to a regular phone after this one.

All PDAs, smartphones, and blackberrys require you to not only get a phone plan but also pay an additional 30 bucks a monthf or the internet/email service. If you can't afford that you just need to get a regular phone.

If you can't afford the internet portion and just want a phone you have no need for a Q, Blackberry, or anything else.

Not 100% true. VZW may allow you to purchase a smartphone without the data coverage. However, you cannot purchase a BB without the data coverage. It's in the contract between RIM and Verizon.

You can pay for web surfing "as you go", at like $.015 per kb or something like that.

You could always try to minimize your bill by getting small minutes(especially if you don't talk much on the phone or talk only to other verizon customers), limit text messaging(I could do this if I wanted because I use the BB messenger a TON).

I'm with ya on the fact that I wouldn't ever go to a dumb phone. These things are too awesome. What would I do when I was pooping without a blackberry?

You can only do pay per use on a smartphone that was release before november 11 2008. Anything released after that smartphone wise requires data package. Phones like the Q, centro, and treo don't require data packages.

Get a phone that runs Android operating system. Depending on your carrier. Does require data package.

Do not buy a motorola or windows based phone. Worst operating system for phones.
