One guy said there was a huge SI investigative reporter in CBUS for three weeks and thus the allegations.

I guess I saw that. But I don't know anything about 247 sports.
Rivals really is different amongst teams. The Michigan site has great mods and is very active. For instance, right now, the Michigan board has 1368 members and 167 guest online. The OSU board has 134 members and 28 guests.

I'll be honest, BP doesn't look like much. Only 7 topics with a post today. Can't see that a site that slow would be a source of "inside" info.

I guess a small bit of good news is that the Gibson vehicle purchase is now cleared up. Hopefully, the other car deals are similar.
I don't suppose Sports by Brooks, Andy Staples, etc will tweet this information tomorrow, either.

Yeah and the one mod said he knows what he is talking about and they are hearing similar things. Something else is coming. Guess we'll just have to see what it is and how severe it is.

Hmmm. So the dealer says it's cleared up? What else would he say? I'm not saying anything is/was illegal, but this is hardly the best source to close the book on it.dat dude;774653 wrote:http://www.10tv.com/live/content/teninvestigates/stories/2011/05/19/story-atlanta-ohio-state-athletes-car-deals.html?sid=102

Did you read the article? The TV station checked the VIN and it came back a 300, not a 300C. Plus, its a hell of a lot better than the $0 price tag for a 300C that was reported.

If that car was still on the lot today, it is worth $4,000 more than Thad paid 3-4 years ago.

The $0 price tag was already cleared up I do believe.

Do we know the condition of the vehicle?
And my point still stands. Gibson's purchase was grossly misreported by those in the media, and I highly doubt it will be corrected.

huh? I get $16,000, so a little over 2,000 more. Trade in value with 37,000 miles is $12,275. They said it was a rental car ,which means they bought it at auction. I promise you they didn't lose money on the deal. I walked into Germain Nissan a few years ago when I blew my car up and walked out with a used car $4,000 under sticker because they sold it to me for $500 more than they bought it at auction for. It's not super uncommon

Well, to be fair, the car was titled to the bank not long after his purchase with a $0 price tag. I don't think anyone ever figured out why.
As far as the condition, it was 1 year old. And neither the dealer or Thad has claimed it's condition was poor and thus the price tag. It still seems fishy to me. Nothing will come of it, because no law was broken, and unless the NCAA was really digging on the issue, they won't care.

I stated that if the car was still on the lot, meaning 13,700 miles. But even at 16,000, that is 2300 more than he paid 3 years ago. Who cares what trade in value is? He wasn't trading it in.
A 1 year old rental doesn't sell for THAT much under regular value. I just looked at used 2011 Sonatas that were rental cars. They only sold for 1,000-3,000 less than the price of new. They probably got them at auction for about $5,000 less than new.
Let's be realistic.

I am being realistic here. Cars sell at auction for below trade in value. Meaning the dealership paid less than trade in value for it. Meaning, commonly, it shouldn't be ruled that it was a special benefit unless it was sold for less than what the dealership paid

A $20,000+ car did not sell at auction low enough for the dealer to make a good profit after selling it for $13,700. They don't auction for 1/2 or less with less than a year on them.

So in 2007 I didn't buy a 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5S with 15,000 miles for $14k OTD? A car that MSRP for $22k just the year before?

Different model year. Different situation. Thad bought 2007 model in 2007.
