Nice ballgame. The bullpen surprised me, didn't think they would hold the one-run lead the entire game.

Pirates and Reds going at it. Game 3.
But Rob Biertempfel of the Tribune Review reports the Pirates are mulling a trade for Josh Willingham and Craig Breslow from Oakland.
Pirates would trade a package that would include Garrett Jones.

Ugly game today. 2 unearned runs on 2 errors by d'Arnauld. It's another situation where you should be glad the Bucs took yet another series, but it leaves a sour taste in your mouth because they didn't sweep the 3rd game.

It does leave a bad taste in your mouth but I'll always take 2 out of 3. They'll get a few sweeps at some point. At least I sure as hell hope so.

Next 3 series are killer. This could determine if the Bucs are contenders or pretenders. 3 vs. St. Louis @ PNC, then 4 games @ Atlanta and 3 @ Philadelphia.

I'm heading down Sunday. Hopefully we're at least going for the series win.

Hard to believe as it is, but Pittsburgh is tied for 2nd in the wild card standings, tied with Arizona. 5 games back though.

I was thinking the same thing. Off the top of my head I can't exactly recall but have the Pirates had more games postponed to be played later as doubleheaders than the Brew Crew?

The Pirates had a couple but I know one was against the Brewers.
They have a doubleheader against the Brewers coming up.

Damn. Not just with a winning record at this point of the season, but in first place (by a percentage point). The Team of the Misfit Toys is exceeding my wildest expectations. Schedule gets a lot more brutal now, so the pitching will need to stay strong and the bats will need to get a bit more awake. It's crazy they beat the Reds 2/3 when they only scored four runs in the series.

They're anticipating the largest weekend crowd in PNC history. I believe all three games are sold out. There might be a few tickets left for Sunday.
Carpenter vs. Maholm in Game 1 tonight
Pujols is 19 for 33 lifetime against Maholm. That's .576!
Carpenter 11-2 with a 2.09 ERA against the Pirates
Looks like they have some more history to try and reverse.

Everytime they lose now I get pissed. At least that's better than not giving a shit at the end of July like I have the last 18 years.

Well, they got the "how will they not sweep this series" deal out of the way early this time. Now they have to beat Garcia and Lohse to win the series. Need a good outing by Correia, who hasn't been as good in the last month or so as he was in the early part of the season, tonight.

Got drilled tonight 9-1. So Pirate's fans...is this the dreaded falloff that we all knew was coming? I hope not, because this season has been too much fun so far. Must NOT get swept tomorrow or I fear much momentum will be gone, especially with the road trip from hell next week.
Maybe the good news is the front office will start to panic and pull off a trade for a bat.

Reds got swept by the cards last year around this time (I think it was early August) and then went on a division clinching run right after...don't look at this series and think 'oh no here it comes' because that's what us reds fans did and we were wrong.
