Should be a great series this weekend with the Buccos in C-town. This series probably means more than any of us thought it might at the begining of the season.

Both teams over .500, you would have never thought that in March, time to get my Pirates hat out and go eat $1.00 dogs on Friday night and fireworks. I think I enjoy the fireworks at Pirates games a little more, probably because they shoot them off from the barge on the river and seem to reflect off all the glass downtown.

There is no firework show better than the ones the Indians put on. It was the only thing worth watching last season, and is heading that way this season lol.

They have to many shows and they are not as good now as they were a few years ago.

Donnie Iris = King Cool. Puts on a good show for an old guy. Actually this is a pretty good Cleveland/Pittsburgh band matchup.

Dude, STFU.

It's obvious you're just anti Cleveland... You're a Twins fan with a Yankees avatar wearing a Pirates hat...

Buccos drop to 35-34 on the season.

It's been awhile since they lost a game and still were over .500!

Pirates 35-36 after getting swept in Cleveland.

They were overmatched this series.

Big question now is where do the Pirates turn for offense? Possibly Alex Presley at AAA. He's hit about .330 this year, good spray hitter, good speed but may not have much power at the MLB level.

Pirates aren't in a position where they have to go for it this year but the lack of power is so significant that they may put together a trade in the next month or so to get another bat.

Our offens is pretty shabby but our bull pen other than our closer is just about as sorry as it gets ..Good job American league umps in puulling out the tarps befoire it was even raining so our starting picture who was in the groove would have to leave ,.... Yep we got jobbed all weekend with bad plate umping .. even though Cleveland would have taken 2 out of threee anyway we got hosed and I noticed it

QQ. Do you realize there are no more AL and NL umps? They all work both leagues. smh.

What sort of trade do you envision them making?

Tough question because they're not in a position where they expect to contend this year. They don't have to "go for it" this year.

Because of that I don't see them acting like a contending team trading for a rent-a-player for a couple months.

They're not going to do that.

If they make a trade it might be a combination of veterans and prospects to another team for a mixture but with a bat being the primary target to receive in return.

It's difficult to acquire power hitting.

The Pirates won't spend the money in free agency on a legit slugger.

And like I said, they don't have to panic and try to get one guy that may help them for just this year.

What they'll probably end up getting is somebody who they think might breakout still and become more of a power threat than the original team projects.

They had Jose Bautista and traded him to Toronto. They're not going to get that lucky but that's the type of player they'll probably trade for.

Nope I didnt I guess they just stunk then calling for the tarps in the bottom of the 8th before it even rains on the last game of a series while our starting pitcher was in a groove .. that was just bogus .. everybody knows our bull penn other than our closer is at the HS level

Karstens had thrown 98 pitches through seven innings. He wasn't coming out for the eighth. At least I wouldn't think he would be. He's not the sort of guy who you really can count on for going above and beyond that 100-pitch limit. For his career as a whole, he usually starts to falter around the 70-80 pitch mark, but he's improved on that this year.

Yes. Hopefully more than 4 runs in 3 games during that series. This one was just sad. Tolerable (Maholm) to decent (Correia) to good (Karstens) starting pitching, but no offense to back them up and some of the newer guys called up to fill in as far as the bullpen goes get rocked (Moskos and Wood).

Was Karstens going to throw the entire game? It was questionable if he would have even come out for the 8th, let alone the 9th. And you would now probably have a new manager if he sent him back out for the 10th and 11th.

From the games I saw, the Pirates are getting closer to snapping their streak of consecutive losing seasons but probably not quite this year. The injuries to their top 2 catchers was glaring this series. So was the lack of a power stick in the middle of the line-up. A guy I'd like to see the Indians pursue this year via trade is Hunter Pence. I wonder if the Buccos would look at a guy like that?

Pirates re-acquire Josh Rodriguez from the Indians for cash. They must really like this kid.
