The only way the Big East would have lived up to he hype would have been to go 11-0 or 10-1 in the first round, then advance about 8 to the Sweet 16, then 3 to the Final 4.

The Big East will have a minimum of 2 more losses in the round of 32 because there are 2 all BE matchups.

The only real surprise was Louisville. Gtown was squandering, St. John's is awful outside of the NY region and they played in Denver and Nova lost 11 of their last 16.

All in all, a 7-4 first round was about par, hard to determine for either arguement.

Good post.

I'd say winning 7-11 as a conference was a success.

Considering conference wins by a #1 seed or a #2 seed is ridiculous. Those are walkover games and prove nothing.

So because a conference has a few teams good enough to earn a #1 or a #2 seed we arent supposed to consider their wins as good for their conference?

What is good about the tournament win? That they didn't become the FIRST #1 seed to lose to a #16 seed? I don't think a win by a #3 seed is all that impressive.

1. The #1 seed is 108–0 against the #16 seed (100%).
2. The #2 seed is 104–4 against the #15 seed (96.30%).
3. The #3 seed is 92–16 against the #14 seed (85.19%).
4. The #4 seed is 85–23 against the #13 seed (78.70%).
5. The #5 seed is 72–36 against the #12 seed (66.67%).
6. The #6 seed is 72–36 against the #11 seed (66.67%).
7. The #7 seed is 65–43 against the #10 seed (60.19%).
8. The #8 seed is 51–57 against the #9 seed (47.22%).

UK over WVU....WVU sucked on offense and were awful down the stretch.

Pitt....well the not only matched Butler's dumbness.....they surpassed it.

Maybe the Big East can get someone into the Sweet 16 if they play eachother looks like it will have to be UConn and Cincy, Cuse vs. Marquette.
Actually, Notre Dame still has hope if they can take out Purdue.

Big East = over-hyped bracket busters

After tomorrow, it looks like it's going to be very balanced.

ACC should have 2
Big Ten should have 2 or 3 (Wisconsin-KState)
Big 12 should have 2 or 3 (Wisconsin-KState)
Mountain West has 2
SEC has 2
Atlantic 10 has 1
Big East should have 3
Horizon has 1

Just about proportionate to how many each conference got in. This is of course, barring upsets. The CAA, Pac-10 and Big Ten could have more if they pull some upsets.

2 out of 7 for the Big Ten would be very similar to 3 out of 11 for the Big East.

Either way, it's about match-ups. Conference affiliation means next to nothing when it's every team for themselves in a single elimination Tournament.

I think Marquette and Cincy beating other BIG EAST teams and continuing to win along with Syracuse and ND making long runs it would counter the early ugliness.

Marquette beating another BE team would mean Syracuse can't make a long run...

My initial post did say Wisky or K-state could change the numbers. It's a one point game though so we will see. Either the Big 12 or Big Ten will have 3...

You can't say who is going to have how many until after the games tomorrow. There are still some tough games to play. George Mason and VCU aren't gimmes. Neither are Michigan and Illinois.

I'm just wondering what kind of run Wisconsin can make if Taylor wakes up. He hasn't shot the ball very well so far in the tourney. If he goes off for 30 against the right team the Badgers could be a Final Four team.

Indeed. They definitely won in spite of him tonight. I think that Butler is going to be an interesting match-up for them, and that if he doesn't play well for the third time, they'll be done.

Looking at Wisconsin's games though, he hasn't played well in the last four, going back to the Ohio State game and the Big Ten tourney.

Big Ten with one team in the sweet 16 with 4 to play tomorrow and the only really bad matchup is UM against Duke. If Illinois plays like they did yesterday they will give Kansas a good game.

And if Michigan shoots the ball and defends like they did, they will give dook a game.

ND getting waxed early on by Flordia State, Syracuse got beat by Marquette

Big East had 5 teams favored to make the Sweet 16......If ND doesn't comeback only UConn will make it.

Marquette making a name for the middle of the pack teams.

well, outside of ND coming back and making the Final 4 or more and Uconn going Final 4 and Marquette winning another round......I'd definately say yes.

I can't even begin to defend the conference at this point. It's been a miserable showing for the Big East so why not just admit that rather than making up lame excuses when they fall flat in the postseason. Lame excuses such as...

-They beat up on each other throughout the year in the conference games.

-The location where the Bowl...I mean NCAA tourney games are played.

-The matchups.

Bottom line, they've stunk it up.
