You haven't been paying attention. The NCAA has been on the Ohio State campus since January, investigating hand and hand with Ohio State's Compliance office. They were immediately invited by Ohio State when the e-mails were found. I would think each entity knows everything the other knows and they each have a good idea what the other's thoughts are.

Colorado, no. Ohio State will beat them like a drum.
The Miami game will depend on the same thing last season's did: The play of Miami's quarterback. If Jacory Harris plays and gives it away a bunch again, Ohio State will win. If Stephen Morris plays and plays well, Miami has a 50-50 chance to win. If he doesn't play really well, Miami has less than a 25 percent chance. (I'm a Miami fan. But you have to remember that this is Ohio State. They're more than five players deep and Tressel can be involved in game planning.)
Sparty has no shot.
They'll all be back for Nebraska and that offense isn't diverse enough to beat Ohio State in Lincoln, Columbus or anywhere else.

They aren't done. And the sanctions haven't been imposed. This could absolutely be a move to lessen the blow by the NCAA.

FYI, 2 months ain't shit. It took over 8 months (from what I remember) for the NCAA to finish the Michigan investigation, and it wasn't as serious.

The plan all along was to have JT's suspension be the same as the players but since they didn't know what that would be until after the appeal, they started his with two. They probably hoped the NCAA might knock a game or two off the players but when that didn't happen, JT went ahead and made his suspension the same.

Oh please, not as serious. Your coach repeatedly held practices knowing he was violating NCAA rules.

Four of those games, they don't need Tressel or the five suspended guys. Just because some dudes are suspended doesn't mean the rest of the roster is barren. They'll beat Sparty on defense and hammer the other three. The only game you'll notice the suspensions is in Miami. It's going to come down to QB play, just like last year. Jacory gave that game away. If he starts and plays like he has money on Ohio State again, the Buckeyes will win.

You root for a team that has a running QB and not much else offensively. How'd that go last year against Ohio State's defense? Taylor Martinez won't be much different, except the opponent will be a touch motivated with their coach finally back with them.

Honestly, you could ban the entire OSU football program for the next 100 years and the haters would say that's still not enough. It's a small violation, Tressel lied, has manned up to it, and its time to move on with the punishment.

You sure he didn't withhold the info after the case was resolved because he knew there was no national title with Joe Bauserman at QB? No one can answer factually either way because Tressel's the only one who knows for sure. This mess now is about what the head coach did and what he didn't do. The federal case was resolved in June. Why didn't he let his AD know what he knew at that point? That's my biggest question in all of this.

And, come on. As soon as this particular shit hit the fan, there was no way those suspensions were being reduced. Tressel and Gene Smith are too smart and know the NCAA too well to not have understood that when they walked into the presser. If that was truly their intention, they should have done it right then.

You expect the NCAA to treat all situations equally? That's funny stuff. They don't even know what they want to do most of the time. It's a bunch of tyrants who can't act in the best interest of college sports so they go authoritarian on the athletes.

But you assume the NCAA acts fairly, which it doesn't. Comparing situations with that crew of asshats is useless.

The only way Tressel's suspension changes at this point is if the NCAA finds more skeletons while they're looking into this. If they do, Ohio State should take a long, hard look at whether or not they can trust their coach to run a clean program.

My problem with that comparison is that players can only be penalized by suspending them and having to give back whatever money they got. It's easier to punish a coach because they can take games AND money.

Personally, if they raised Tressel's fine to $500k, 5 games and $500k > 8 games

Has nothing to do with being a hater. However, it does seem to have something to do with same fans who are defensive over their perfect football program being hit with major violations. Therefore, no one outside the OSU fan base (sometimes even within) is allowed to have an opinion without being a hater.

Wait...they have 9 NCAA compliance people on campus? How the fuck did he not know "who to partner with" when he got those emails?! I assumed it was one person buried in an low lit office in the basement of some campus building. 9?!

OSU will be 5-0 after those games. They're not losing to a scatterbrained Miami team or a bottom feeding colorado team. MSU might be a concern if it was a road game but they'll win at home.
