Congratulations to you and the rest of your Notre Dame-lite brethren. For all the garbage spewed about "At least we have our integrity and our standards", your complete failure to enact any type of supplemental discipline on someone who attempted to cover up a major violation and then misled investigators shows just how pathetic you are.

I can't even say you're the same as everyone else. When Bruce Pearl was caught improperly hosting recruits off-campus and instructed them to mislead investigators if called on it, this is what happened:
- Tennessee terminated his contract. Pearl is currently working an a totally at-will basis, and his pay was chopped by $1.5 million per year for as long as he remains as head coach.
- Tennessee slapped him with additional penalties, including heavy recruiting restrictions.
- The SEC, not satisfied, stepped in and suspended Pearl for 8 conference games.
- The NCAA still does not regard this as a closed matter; rumors continue to swirl that he will face a yearlong suspension and a probable show-cause probation.

That's the SEC, the bastion of bandits, that reviewed extremely heavy penalties and went even further with it. And here now is the Big ???, deciding that a meaningless suspension and a meager fine, is sufficient.

Congratulations, Jim Delany. You're WORSE than the rest.

ERROR ERROR......Pearl's pay was docked $1.5 million over a 5 year period. $300K/year, chicken feed.

ERROR ERROR.....The ONLY restriction is Pearl can't recruit off campus for one year. A VERY minimal recruiting restriction. The recruiting function coaches least like.

ERROR ERROR....The ONLY coaching restriction was coaching the 8 games. Pearl was still allowed to work on creating scouting reports for those games, was still allowed to work on scouting videos for those 8 games, was still allowed to game plan for those 8 games, was still allowed to plan and coach in EVERY practice except for any practice on game day of those 8 games.

ERROR ERROR.....There are 3 times as many basketball games in a season, compared to football games in a season. Punishments should be meted out proportionally.

Not sure what you are trying to say Big Gain (shocking) but I think you are saying the suspension is just because the basketball season is longer? Pearl was suspended for 8 SEC games or half of the SEC season. Would you then agree that Tressel should be suspended for 4 or 5 Big Ten games?

NNN, I'm not saying that you're wrong, but do you ever say anything positive about anyone in college football? All I ever see you do is complain about college football teams, players, conferences, etc. If you hate college football so much, then why watch and comment on it?

I love college football, and I hate the dishonesty, lack of integrity, and unethical behavior that generally permeates the college ranks. That goes for anyone from Rick Neuheisel (and his band of felons) to Bobby Petrino (quitter, disgrace to the college game) to tree-poisoning Bammer yahoos to....you get the idea.

You're in the wrong sport then. I don't have anything against you, but I'm just telling you the truth. Any time big money is involved, there will be corruption, both on the organizational body's (NCAA) side, and on the people they organize (coaches, players, universities).

I understand completely, however, it seems like all you ever do here is focus on the negative aspects of the sport. It just seems like you really hate college football, and if you continue to only focus on the negative things that go on eventually you will. It'd be nice if occasionally we'd see a positive comment about something college football related from you. If you could balance the positive and negative it would make your negative comments more tolerable around here, instead of making you look like a complaining pariah. Just an observation since I can't recall one positive post about a school, team, coach, or player from you on here. It seems like the only time you show up is when you have something negative to comment on. It's like mom used to tell you, "If you don't have something nice to say . . ."

Yep, Ohio State made it 2 games and $250K so the NCAA could double it and make it appear like they're being tough and cracking down.

Ohio State determined what punishment they would give Tressel after working with the NCAA on campus concerning this issue for the past 10 weeks. hmmmmmm.

Why are you comparing it to Pearl's suspension? 2 games against MAC schools is not the same as half of a conference schedule. Is this difficult to understand? I feel like I must be typing in a different language than what you are reading. Do you not read common sense and logic well?

Its all relative. A game is a game, period. Fans can bicker and argue. But never in sports, when penalties are handed down, do they pick and choose what games to sit out. Its typically the "next" game or games. What the SEC commish did, was use conference games. Maybe Delaney will eventually do something. But he is smart enough to sit back right now, and let the NCAA do their job before possibly doing something.
As I mentioned on another thread...Gene Smith used to work for NCAA infractions committee, OSU hired a consulting firm familar with NCAA penalties AND OSU has been working WITH the NCAA since discovering the emails in Jan. Maybe the NCAA/Big Ten will do more, but it seems as if OSU did their homework in terms of the penalties handed down. If more happens, so be it. I think the penalties are sufficient...but wouldn't bitch if more came down either. Tressel put himself at the mercy of the NCAA with his decision.

8 conference games in college basketball are just as important as any 2 games in the college football season regardless of competition. In college football, one loss and you're pretty much eliminated from national championship talk. 2 losses, you're finished (with 1 exception). In college basketball, you can lose all 8 of those conference games and still have a chance to compete for the national championship. In fact, I believe Tennessee will have that chance to compete for the national championship this year.


So Karen, my question to you: what is so difficult to understand? Do you not read common sense and logic well? Pearls and Tressels suspensions are apples and oranges in a comparison between 2 sports that is also apples and oranges.

Games against Akron and Toledo are not the same as Big Ten games. lhs, I'm 100% certain that you could coach Ohio State in those two games and they would still win by 30. Big Gain started the comparison saying that the 2 games are equal to what Pearl, when they are not. Another thing to consider is that Pearl's suspension was handed down by the SEC, not self imposed. The NCAA will likely add on to that as well. I'm sorry if you are unable to understand that, its not that difficult. I do understand that one loss in college football means something in regards to national championship hopes, but a loss in week one does not automatically rule them out and it has absolutely no impact on conference titles or BCS berths. The two games as it is is an absolute joke, and you have to realize that.

Some people won't be happy until the NCAA just arbitrarily choose one game the Buckeyes should forfeit for the upcoming season. I understand that but it's simply unrealistic to hope for it.

In college basketball, Pearl's suspension had no impact on conference tourney title or national championship aspirations.

That's not really a valid statement though, a games outcome could easily the altered by a call an assistant might make that your head coach wouldn't...4th & goal not going for points, pass on 3rd and goal from the 1 foot line etc...

Hard to make that assumption...they shouldn't be in that position granted but you get my point.

Yeah I understand what you are saying, but they should not be in that position against Toledo and Akron. And lets face it, with the screaming that goes on when Tressel runs a FB dive on 3rd and goal from the 2 or kicks a FG from the half yard line, maybe it would be better that an assistant makes those calls. :) (just joking here, don't get upset)

The screaming that goes on here is, well, unjustified in view of results. :)

I concede they shouldn't be in that position, but 3+ quarters of contradictory calls could see it...just sayin'

That's not my point. You're talking about something that isn't really a part of what I'm saying. I'm merely commentating on the relativity between 8 conference regular season basketball games and 2 out of conference football games.

And as for your second post, even though you were joking, we probably would be better off with someone else calling the plays in the red zone. The only criticism I have of Ohio State football on the field during the Tressel era is that we let teams back into the game/can't win games we should (see Wisconsin) because of our inability to score touchdowns in the red zone. Whether that's because of bad O-line play, bad playcalling, or bad playing by the skill players I don't know, but it cost us 2 games with national championship implications (see USC in 2009 and Wisconsin in 2010).
