Posted this on the ACC Tournament Thread, but thanks for posting it here too.

I'm sure plenty of people missed it on the other thread.

^^That was a cool moment. Right after Duke won the most recent national championship. They could be in a beach blanket feeding each other peaches in that picture and I wouldn't give a shit lol. NCAA champs 4X, bitch.

Why's this hilarious? Singler is an incredibly versatile defender. See his defense on lottery pick Gordon Hayward in last year's national championship. Hayward, who had been averaging over 20 points and shooting over 55% from the field in Butler's Sweet 16, Elite Eight and national semi-final contests in last season's NCAA tournament, was held to just 12 points (eight were free throws) on 2-of-12 shooting from the field.

He was also spectacular in his match-up with Harrison Barnes in Cameron, holding Barnes to 3-of-8 shooting and nine points. In the three contests prior, Barnes had averaged 23 points per game and had scored in double figures in seven straight.

Those are just two blips on the radar. Kyle Singler is an outstanding defender.

Singler is the most versatile defender in the ACC, maybe the country. The main reason his offense has slipped is because he has been asked to guard players who were primary offensive options.

Most versatile defender in the ACC and possibly the country L O LLLL.

First off, Singleton from FSU is just as versatile and probably even more versatile. And I truly hope you're not serious about him being one of the most versatile defenders in the entire country. And I thought OSU fans were biased about Craft smh

If you don't think Kyle Singler is an outstanding defender, then you are a severely inadequate judge of basketball talent. Even the most vitriol of Duke haters (a fan from Carolina) would tell you differently. And I would bet a lot of cash on that.

Right.

Theres a reason Singler is not though to be a 1st round type player( and if he is, its very late in the first round), he lacks the athleticism, strength and quickness to be a great defender

My larger point was that not even a Carolina fan would say "LOL'z" to Singler being one of the ACC's most versatile defenders. He's the most versatile in the ACC. See swami's post. He can guard four positions on the floor and, more times than not, will come up with outstanding results.

Pretty much same height and weight. Singleton is quicker, longer, more explosive, averages more rebounds steals AND blocks. Not to mention he got more votes for DPOY and every draft review raves about his defense....

I would LOVE to see Singler guard a PG, a 2, and a 5.....

If there were a way of proving that, I would have posted the picture.

But this is pretty good.

"Kyle Singler is an outstanding defender." - Coach K after Singler held West Virginia shooting guard/small forward Da'Sean Butler to 2-of-8 shooting the in the 2010 national semi-finals. That enough?

Or the the 2-of-12 shooting performance Singler held 6'10" All-American and NBA lottery selection Gordon Hayward to two nights later in the national final, including an OUTSTANDING defensive stop on Hayward's second-to-last shot attempt of the night, a hard drive to the baseline that would have given Butler the title. Singler. Game over.

Since there isn't a definitive way of proving Singler is the most versatile defender, however, I will rephrase my original statement. There is not a more versatile defender in the conference. My reasoning: four years of watching the kid play ACC basketball and be called upon, and succeed in, everything from hounding shooting guards around the perimeter for 40 minutes, to banging in the key with the big boys. What he lacks in spring or athleticism, Singler makes up for with extremely high basketball IQ and an uncanny penchant for coming up with the winning play. Simply put. That's why Singler is both the 2010 NCAA Athlete of the Year as well as the 2010 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. If you'd have watched the kid play as many games as I have, you'd probably have a better appreciation for what he has meant to Duke defensively.

Da'Sean Butler played 28 minutes in the Final Four game. He blew his knee out. Must have been the outstanding D from Singler that did it.
