These are just samples.

In addition, I mentioned more than one game. Singler held Da'Sean Butler (an 18 ppg scorer) to 2-of-8 shooting in the Final Four, two nights previous to the Hayward encounter.

Singler has been playing strong defense for a long, long time. And, if you don't believe me, cool.

And in 28 minutes, which is more than enough time to get "on a roll," he sucked. And Duke was well in control by the time Butler went down, largely because of, you named it, Kyle Singler shutting down Butler in all facets of the game offensively.

The last sighting of Butler on the play by play is at the 8:59 mark. It was a 15 point game. That is hardly "well in control"

Look I already said he was a good defender. Outstanding is a stretch.

With approximately eight minutes to go, 15 points isn't in control? What is, 80? This isn't NBA Jam.

From my recollection, Duke had maintained that lead for at least several minutes before Butler was injured. The tides had were clearly turning and, although as a fan I was at my knees in terror, Duke was definitely in control.

I can't believe this point is even being argued. Every coach in the league would agree Singler is the most versatile defender in the league. He does guard 2-5 and more often than not takes the other teams best player barnes, ekepe udoh, Cj leslie, delaney, , leuer, jajuan johnson, hayward, singleton, etc. Is he the pro prospect that singleton is? No, he does lack the quickness, however he has been asked to do much more than singleton has in his career and he has delivered.

And you made it worse by saying hes the most versatile defender in the ACC. When clearly Singleton is and your bias will not let you accept that. Singler is a good defender, nothing you would think twice about. At least NBA scouts and everyone that voted for ACC DPOY (except one person, probably with ties to duke) think

Singler most versatile, guards 2-5 consistently. Has defended Udoh, JaJuan Johnson, Hayward, Singleton, Barnes, etc.
Singleton best overall defender guards primarily 4-5 and plays on the wings offensively. Which is why he is the pro prospect he is.

I don't see how that is bias? Singler is THE MOST VERSATILE DEFENDER IN THE ACC.
Singleton is NOT AS VERSATILE AS SINGLER, but is a MUCH BETTER DEFENDER OVERALL.

I like Singler's tenacity and intelligence on the defensive end of the floor, but there is no way in hell he effectively defends a quality post player. He just doesn't have the size or the girth.

Agree totally, he isn't nearly physical enough to contain them but I think in stretches his knowledge of the game helps him get by. Good teams exploit that matchup when they can.

Hmm so Singleton cant guard a 2-3-4 or 5 even though hes the same size only quicker, more athletic and more explosive? Interesting


Ever think he just isnt asked to do that? Singleton could defend any position Singler can just as effectively if not more

I could be great at long jump, even the best at it. But if not asked to high jump, why am I considered?

Singler is asked to guard 2-5, does so, and as a result is regarded by many as the most versatile defender.
Singleton is not asked to, so he is not considered the most versatile defender in the league.

Lol you're serious with that high jumper comparison?


I would LOVE to know how many minutes singler has spent guarding a 2 guard, i would bet that its little to no time doing that.
Majority of his time has probabl been spent guarding 3-4....Same as Singleton(who could also be just as effective as Singler guarding a 2 or 5 and has probably spent just as much time doing so)

I could go out and guard positions 2-5 and I'd even guard the point. I would suck at it but I could do it. Does that make me versatile?
