I do feel for the Seniors but there's no guarantee that would've come out with a win no matter who they would've played.

Notre Dame has bigger fish to fry (finding a Head Coach). I can see where it might rub some people the wrong way but I also think there can be legitimate reasons for this....one of which I mentioned in my last sentence.

I'm not sure how much value this has as no one knows what kind of offense and defense next year's team will be running.

Ok, but like I just said....how much practice will they get? they are gonna have like a week before the shit bowl game they are in takes place.
Practice is practice. Get them out on the field together even if they are unsure of their systems.

Eh, usually when it's a discussion (well, mature discussion) words like "shit" are used to describe people's motives. If I misunderstood, I apologize.

You're right- it's absolutely their decision- if they don't want to go, don't go.

It's also uptight Buckeye fans' decision to make fun of them or question them for not going. They don't have to appease Notre Dame fans and say nothing.:D

Oh sorry I used a swear word, that automatically takes away the maturity from a discussion.

I used "shit" to emphasize my opinion on ND's issue with money. I call bullshit on any ND poster that says ND shouldn't go to the bowl game because they will lose money. You know for a fact that ND has no issues regarding money and to use that as an excuse is ridiculous.

If they do indeed do this. I've lost any respect I had for that program. Pathetic, plain and simple.

Not what I was going for, but figured I'd get that time tested gem. It was in response to elbuckeye's questions.

Go up to a group of people who are having a mature discussion and just start swearing for every point you make the looks people give should tell a story. I'm helping you for your benefit. ;)

I know Notre Dame has no issue with money, but if they are as greedy as people on here have been accusing them of being, why would they want to do anything that would cost them money? Do I think money is the issue? Nah. I think it's more of a pride thing or a support of Weis thing. I could way off though.

And the high probability that Central Michigan would beat Notre Dame this year not-to-mention ND would likely end up 6-7 wouldn't be good for the program either. Just sayin'. ;)

Well firing a coach still under contract multiple times is costing them 100x more money than going to the bowl game.

If they were truly greedy people they wouldn't fire the coaches that they overpay to come to ND.

This was done for one simple reason:

Do everything they can to avoid falling under .500

And get out of here with the "playing ____ wouldn't do much for our recruiting" comments.. You think NOT going to a bowl game after a 6-6 season is going to do something for recruiting?

ND is not an elite program now. It's that simple. These are the bowl games they should be in for the seasons they're having.

Does anyone think the smaller bowls will stop inviting Notre Dame being this is the 2nd time in a short time they have decline to play in one?

NCF, I doubt it. While it may bruise their ego a bit, they would love the oppurtunity to get Notre Dame to play in their bowls. They might no be good, but the fanbase is huge and they travel well.

I'm hoping that once Stoops is Head Coach they won't be receiving invites from these smaller Bowls. I'd like to think that they'll be playing on New Year's Day.

Good. ND's already fundamentally sound in areas such as blocking a three man rush, run blocking on 3rd & short, and most of all tackling. They don't need the three weeks of practice to work on any of those things. :s

I hope the next coach instills some toughness, as well as, and I'm absolutely sick of this word, nastiness into this team next year.

Why is money an issue this year going to a relatively close bowl, but it wasn't last year going to a bowl in Hawaii?

I guess I don't see why you wouldn't take a bowl game? Is it going to be a great bowl? Not even, but they at least did enough to deserve a bowl.

It's just silly because there are many teams in the FBS that would be happy just to participate in a bowl.

The Hawaii bowl does suggest that money wasn't an issue last season.

Again not a shot.

Just looking at the facts and tring to continue some of the good football talk that we are having.

The Hawaii was a bit different of a situation. Notre Dame was in a record setting bowl losing streak and I'm sure Weis was desperate to end that so he could hopefully have some momentum for this year. Last year you could have thrown any bowl in front of the Irish and Weis would have taken it. The streak is over (thank God) and now they don't have a coach. That and who can turn down a trip to Hawaii?

Last year the number one priority was for Weis to end the streak and get momentum for this year. Weis is gone and the streak is over. I'm saying the biggest priorities for last year are both gone.

Dumb move. Never turn down the chance to get more practice time.

Look the kids voted no. The leaders of the team said it. Last year they had a head coach at bowl time. There was no major transition going on. This year is much different.

This is not the first time ND turned down a bowl game. Arrogance? No. Smart move. Although I agree with Soda about practice time.
