This is the trailer for the upcoming video game Dead Island. Not only are the graphics unreal, but the way in which the trailer unfolds cannot help but make me think about just how cinematic some video games are getting. See Heavy Rain for another example.

Here it is, realize that it is a game that involves zombies, so be ready for fake blood.

If you are a fan of video games, do you like this trend? If you do not like video games, could you see this trend (applied to other genres, instead of zombies) leading to a wider acceptance of video games as art?

That'd make a sweet movie.

Those graphics are absolutely ridiculous.

I don't think that the perception of video games will ever change. I mean, graphics now are really good, but people who don't like video games really don't give a shit about them.

People that game will appreciate this (I appreciate it). I like the theatrical feel that goes with games now.

Bingo! Let's see gameplay and judge the graphics. Most games these days have killer non-gameplay trailers.

My buddy had it posted this morning. I can't believe the graphics on the trailer, they look extremely great.

I wonder how the game will be based, I don't know anything about it or haven't researched it. Anyone know anything?

its not game play footage, but those are screenshots of game play footage. Most games that are coming out now that are garnering the attention like Dead Island is deliver when it comes to actual game play. I mentioned Heavy Rain not only for its cinematic game play, but because it has some of the best graphics i have ever seen.

We'll see. Many games have these killer "game play" screenshots, that turn out to actually be screenshots of the cinematics between actual game play. But technically it's still part of the game play.

Sorry to be skeptical. It could be this good. I will reserve judgement until it comes out.

I usually only buy the NCAA Football games every year and that's it. But if the actual gameplay on this game looks like the trailer, I'd probably give it a go.

I do like the way story lines are becoming bigger parts of video games. Which is why Half-life 2 is one of my favorites. It was probably the first game that took the story line feature to the next level.

nothing...looked good. But the trailers and stuff claimed to be gameplay trailers...they werent.
