Best pitcher in the AL so far?
James Shields, Jered Weaver or Justin Verlander?
Close, Josh Beckett

Halladay
Weaver
Shields
everyone else.
Verlander is virtually untouchable at this point.

I assume Tiger said that because Halladay hasn't pitched in the AL for a couple of years now.

Verlander is untouchable. But Shields has 3 CG 1 SHO in his last 3 starts. Its very close. Verlander has been dominant for 5 starts, and Shields for 3...but those 3 maybe more than Verlander. Here are Shields last 3 for those who dont know.
9 innings, no runs versus the Red Sox (who have like 200 runs in June)
Followed by:
9 innings, no ER versus the Marlins
Followed by:
9 innings, 1 ER versus the Astros

Yeah but those 3 teams all are in the bottom half in the MLB in runs scored and hitting. Plus, I have a lot more faith in Verlander. Shields is very inconsistent.

I just dont know if I can concede that either. Im not saying JV isnt better, but it is MUCH closer than anyone in the country is giving credence two.
JV has given up 3 ER or less in 16/17 starts, Shields in 14/16 starts. Here are the numbers in a breakdown:
Verlander--------Shields
3-----------------------2
3-----------------------5
2-----------------------2
3-----------------------1
3-----------------------0
3-----------------------1
0-----------------------1
1-----------------------2
3-----------------------3
6-----------------------0
0-----------------------3
2-----------------------7
1-----------------------3
0-----------------------0
1-----------------------0
0-----------------------1
Shields has been inconsistent almost his whole career. But it isnt fair to label him that way this season. He has been remarkable.

I can believe it. It's 30 yards. I can easily see Mays running like 4.2 - 4.4 forty yard dash.Ironman92;814760 wrote:Bobby Valentine just said Willie Mays got to first bast in 3.4

We are talking about after a swing. So his momentum is not taking him directly to first.More towards SS/3rd.

Drew Stubbs is 3.7 from the right side....would love to see the fastest NFL combine guys swing a bat and get clocked from contact and then do it on dirt opposed to fast field turf...and time the final stride to hit the base in the best place.

Anybody see Troy Tulowtizki hit the ball twice in one swing? Never seen that before, ever.

WTF? Someone told me about that yesterday but I forgot to look it up. Doesn't seem possible at all.
