And the Braves have their first pinch hit of the year, a 2 run pinch hit HR by Hinkse, and a 3 run bomb by UGGLA. 9-1 now. Braves haven't scored 9 runs total in 2 weeks.

Phillies sweep the 4 game series with the Padres in San Diego. Philly has the best record in baseball at 15-6 and have won 5 in a row.

jaysonst Jayson Stark

#Phillies issued statement saying Oswalt left team out of concern for his home & family in wake of tornadoes & severe storms in Mississippi
Might not miss a start, probably a non issue.

Thinking someone won't know the background to Oswalt's story is trolling? GTFO.

I heard it has to do with tornadoes hitting his hometown so he's going there.

Who was it that made jokes at St Louis for picking up Lance Berkman?

If he's not NL MVP so far...well

I made a joke about their outfield, defensively. But I actually thought he was primed for a more "normal" year than what he had in Houston the last couple seasons. Of course, he is having a season no one could have predicted thus far.

I was one of the guys cracking jokes for sure. He's had a heck of a start. Let's see if he keeps it up.

But yeah, I was with Laley, most of the shots I took had to deal with how terrible their OF was going to be defensively. Holliday is a bad fielding OF as well

I haven't been paying much attention to the NL, but I was wondering how the Cardinals were leading the Central with how shitty Pujols is playing. Makes sense now that I see Berkman's stats and see Holliday batting .409.

Hard to believe that Berkman was batting below or just right near .250 the past 3-4 seasons and now he is producing these numbers.

Pujols is only hitting .230ish. But he still had 7 HRs and close to 20 RBI. not exactly shitty,

By Pujois standards it is, considering his streak of having that power/production WHILE hitting .300+.

A few more solid pitching performances tonight. Derek Lowe took a no hitter into the 7th against Philly before a blister on his foot kind of derailed it. He had to be good because Cliff Lee was busy striking out 16 Braves hitters. The Braves did touch him up for 4 straight hits and 3 runs on just 5 pitches in the 3rd.

Jaime Garcia took a perfect game into the 8th before walking a batter and giving up a single to the next hitter.
