One that comes right to mind, is a guy named Hank Gathers, who happened to die right on the court from heart failure. His team played on and made a run to the elite 8, 12 days after his death! So yes, overcoming adversity, does happen quite often.
I'm not saying there haven't been worse tragedies...all I'm saying is JUST FOR THAT UT GAME ALONE, KU lost because of what they had to go through the NIGHT BEFORE the game. I'm not talking about losses in march or losses next year, i'm talking about that UT game.
I'm also not saying overcoming adversity doesn't happen quite often...i'm not retarded I know that there are worse tragedies in the sports world and there have been players whom have overcome said tragedies. But when the entire team is up all night crying with someone they call family because his MOM just died two weeks after his grandma and grandpa just died, no they are not going to win a damn basketball because they are not mentally or physically ready to play the game. Don't agree with me...fine, I don't care...but you cannot tell me that the excuse is not valid.
