You nuthug the games best player, it's far worse than being a bandwaggoner of ANY team. It gives you the easiest out when the TEAM the best player is on blows a game. You don't experience the agony of defeat in the least, you can simply deflect blame to other players who didn't get it done, management who never brought in better players to support your super hero. It's always somebody's fault that isn't your guy. It's a fandome for pussies. Matter of fact, it falls right in line with your posting style, never wrong, not your fault, easy way out.
After reading this, I can only say one thing: why didn't I think of this as far as baseball is concerned? Instead of being a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, I could have been a Barry Bonds fan. It's the perfect parallel to this. He was the cornerstone of a struggling Pittsburgh franchise's few good years in recent history until he left the Pirates for another team and took on the role of "the villain" (being an asshole, steroid controversy) and with the production he brought to the plate, there's no way any team failings could be placed on him...and if they were, as a SUPERFAN, I could deflect them by mentioning various teammates and what they didn't do.
And with him retired now, I'd have so many options. I could stay with the Giants and be a Timmy L. fan. Or with how I'm on an Ohio-based board, I could decide to humor the masses and root for Votto, as he did win the MVP last year. All these great options, as opposed to being loyal to a team...no matter how much they lose and how unlikely it feels that they'll ever win with any consistency.
