I agree that he absolutely can provide a spark.

As for anyone questioning Sullinger as the go to guy, it's ridiculous. Yes someone else might get the shot last second. But I guarantee that in practice, Marta is telling his guys to work the offense through Sullinger.

I bet you 100% that Matta teaches his team to take what they can get and to play as a team and not look to 1 specific player as the "go to" guy.

Great point. I remember Matta saying that Buckeyes fans never got a chance to experience the real Greg Oden since he was only healthy for one game the entire season. And it's not like he had an offensive explosion against a no name team or players. He did it against 3 big men who are all in the NBA right now (Noah, Horford, and Speights) with each one taking their turns and NONE had an answer. And on defense he was a man among boys. I picked Sullinger only because I can only go off of what I seen from Oden when he was injured. Sullinger is so intelligent offensively and a good rebounder, that it's hard to ignore his production. But there is no doubt Oden would have been scary good if he came and left Ohio State healthy.

Having an offense run through a player and a player being a go to guy are 2 different things.

Carolina's offense runs through the post, but their go to guy is Harrison Barnes.

You mean after Buford made a 3 point shot to put them up 63-61?

I never said that Sully won't take over a game, I said that OSU will not force it to a player like they did with Turner last year as the "go to" guy.

I know I always being up Carolina, but this OSU team reminds me a lot of the 2005 National Championship team in Chapel Hill.

A dominate, at times, big man: Sean May.
Very good PG: Raymond Felton.
An explosive wing: Rashad McCants.
A scorer off the bench: Marvin Williams.
Lock down defender: Jackie Manuel.

Carolina didn't have a lights out 3 pt shooter like Diebs, but had plenty oh guys who could stroke it.

What did OSU do on their final 2 possessions once PSU tied it up at 63? Who did they "force" it to in the final possessions?

While I'm going, who had the ball on the final possession of the NW game?

Listen, I agree with you that there isn't a constant go to guy, but most of the time, it's #0 with the ball in his hands when we need points because he's the best player on the team.

Not really, look at the play by plays. Most of the tight games Craft and Lighty have the ball and score late in the game.

Okay and look who scored all of the points at the beginning of the 2nd half against Illinois when we were down, Sully.

If Sully wasn't the go to guy, he wouldn't be the leading scorer on the team.

I think you are confusing the guy that everyone looks to when times are tough because they think he is the only one who can do it vs a very good player on a very good team who is good at sharing the ball. I am not denying that Sully is a great player, but everyone on that team is capable of taking that last shot and everyone is confident in each other that they can take that shot. If Sully is getting hardcore doubled, you don't see them force it to him just so he can try a 10 ft hook shot over two guys, they will throw it in to him then kick it out, or have him come out to open things up for Craft or Lighty to drive to the hoop. I just don't see this team saying that Sully is the only one who should touch the ball in tight situations at the end of the game.

Also, Sully went cold and Illinois came right back until Thomas came in and put them away.

How many games has OSU been in a game where the score was a 1 possession score in the final 2 possessions of a game or last minute etc this year? I can only think of PSU, Illinois, Minny and NW that I have seen. I have seen Sully get the ball on those possessions. If he didnt in another game that they were down or tied, Id be willing to bet they looked to him and the pass wasnt there or he had to pass it after touching it.

I didn't see the Minny game, so I dont know how Lauderdale ended up on the FT line....but we can all agree, that wasnt the plan lol.

I would bet a lot of money, if the game is in a situation like this, Sully gets the ball. That is a go-to guy.

Sully had 1 offensive look in the last 2 min of the Illinois game. 1 in the Minny game as well. Craft, Lighty and Buford all have touched the ball just as much at the end of close games, you can even throw Diebler in there.


Gasp, you know what that means? They spread the ball around!

Close doesnt equal go-to, at least not imo. Close can be a 4-5-6 pt lead etc, but still a big enough gap to run an offense. Go-to is when the game is actually on the line...a 1 possession game in the final possession or 2 (Minus FT after said possession). We may be looking at it differently, but I only recall about 4 or 5 of these the whole year. Minny is the only game I didnt see, but the only possession that fit my circumstances is when Dallas got the FTs...so, its kind of a moot point on that game.

You realize the exact definition by Merriam Webster of the phrase "go to" means the player who is expected to score. If Sully has only scored in the final possession in 2 of the 5 close games, how the hell is he the go to guy?
