I know Orr from smithville is at ball state but that is all i know of.

We see it year in and year out, the wcal has awesome players, but hardly any of them go to div. I schools. A lot of them go to div. III schools play and succeed which their is nothing wrong with that.

Where is Mike Plant when we need his expertise.

The point I'm making is very, very few players ever advance to the D1 level. The last couple years the best players (IMO) in the WCAL didn't go D1 (2010-Bauman/Ritt....2009-Busson/Chip) at least I don't think they did.

We always get ahead of ourselves on this topic, but hey, that's half the fun:)

The reality of it is to play D1 you have to have the size and speed. Many of the players in the WCAL that have been really good have not been big or fast enough. Wallace is about 6'3" and about 205 lbs I think. His frame is plenty big enough to put 20 or 30 lbs on it. His speed would be the only question but he is definitely not slow. If Brenner and Matt Davis are D1 material then Wallace is a shoe in. No disrespect to either of those guys.

i myself have played D3 college football and if you think wallace could go D1 you are crazy. IMO wallace would play defense in college and he probably wouldnt get playing time untill his junior or senior year at a D3 school. D3 football is no joke and you have to be a real stud to get on the field.

I'm not here to get into a p**sing contest over whether Wallace is D1 or not but plenty of guys who were good (example: Reed of Nwn at 6-5) and had size still didn't get there. I personally think there are factors beyond size and speed that one needs to have to make D1.

Comparing your guy with another guy doesn't really hold much water (IMO). I have no idea where Wallace will end up, if anywhere. Before I jump on the "he's D1 bandwagon", lets see how he does in the high school showcase games against other prospects.

I hope the kid makes it though....the odds just aren't in his favor.

Two of the best football players I have seen in this area in Kyle Simmons and Tommy Brenner did not play division 1 football. That does not mean they aren't division 1 caliber players. There really is a thin line between what level of college athletics you can play at and what you do play at. Especially when you look at a league like the OAC as far as d3 athletics are concerned, it is one of the best in the country. There are plenty of players that walk through those schools that could definitely make a roster in the MAC. A lot of things have to go right to earn a division 1 scholarship. Same thing with a division 2 scholarship. Too many times we judge high school athletes on what they do after they graduate. That is silly. One of my best friends did not get one division 1 scholarship offer, but would consistantly do more than hold his own with them during AAU games and on the Summer circuit.

this just shows that paul is an idiot! Obviously you know nothing about norwayne or the WCAL. Kassa didnt even go to Marshall or did he have a scholarship to play and im sure no one is surprised hes not even in college. No one in the WCAL could play D1 this year, last year, or the year before! paul you are just ridicoulous for even bringing this stupid conversation up!

REP!!! If anything Wallace would have to play defense. IMO Bauman would have been a way better D1 fit than Wallace. Not to knock the kid but he'll probably end up playing somewhere in D3, which is not bad at all.

In the past 10 years, how many WCAL grads have gone on to play at least 2 years of D1 college football?

I gotta think the number is pretty small.

I think now WD coach Zuercher played 4 years at Akron, but beyond him I'm drawing a blank.

who else?

Seth Ream from Smithville played D-line for I think 5 years (1 redshirt?) at Ohio University.

I think Gabe Middleton was offered a chance to play for Yale, but I believe he went elsewhere.

I don't know of any others off-hand, but I haven't been in High School for 10 years either.

Yes. Seth was a freak in High School.

And knowledge is based on facts, and facts cannot be substantiated until Wallace goes to college. However, as it has indeed been said, D1 is not even the norm for the most elite players in the WCAL, so TRENDS would indicate that the biggest fish in the small pond known as the WCAL are still not usually D1 material.

If these kids can get to any college football program and get playing time, I believe they deserve incredible recognition. Many players from the WCAL have gone to school to play football, but they have trouble hanging in for four years because they are used to being the top dawg on their team or in the county. When they get to a college program and have to sit, it doesn't seem nearly as attractive. I feel that this reason plays a big part in players from the WCAL going to smaller schools to play. These kids love the game, and they want to be on the field. Congrats to Wallace so far on a fantastic season, with three games left, it looks like this will be a memorable senior campaign for him. Will he go division 1? Who knows... don't put the pressure on the kid. Let him enjoy his senior year, and if he goes on to play anywhere in college, congrats regardless of the level he plays at.

I'm gonna go with Rittman hanging with Smithville. Interestingly, one of the plays Smithville had trouble covering against Thut and the gang was a screen pass. LOL!

I think the norwayne smithies game will either be a blow out by norwayne or a close one. I dont think norwayne has really played any large lines this year.. As they are a bit undersized... Go cats. And wallace has alot of mac interest and I have heard of one acc school. By the way paul I am a norwayne grad before you say anything.

The word I hear is that Wallace is wanting to play defense. I also hear that he has never been in love with playing QB. I wish the kid all the luck in the world.

Bauman a better fit in D1....that's ridiculous. The kid is tiny. Size does matter Madman and I am assuming you are from Rittman.

I'm from Orrville and I've seen several kids go D1. Speed would be the only thing that would stop Wallace. They could definitely pack the weight on him and he is fearless.

Good luck to Wallace and to the Cats

I could see him maybe able to play ILB, where his speed is on par (not Mike D'Andrea speed, if anyone remembers him in HS). I wouldn't be able to see him playing an offensive skill position, except maybe TE, if he has good hands.

Anyone remember Tony Franklin from St. Peter Chanel's State Championship team? He ran for almost 400 yards in the State Championship game, and yet he couldn't play RB for a major D1 school.

Thankfully, he DID end up going to West Virginia as a DB.
