This. I would not be surprised to see them go away from the partisanship, particularly after the Arizona shootings. I think they figure Matthews, Maddow and O'Donnell could possibly play it straight (no pun intended for Maddow) if they have to, but know that Olbermann is so far out there is no way he could play the unbiased reporter. If the folks above can't be unbiased, they will get pink slips as well IMO.

I was just looking at the numbers you posted above. They were for Thursday, I believe.
I then looked at the numbers for some of the other stuff on at 8PM (since we're talking about Olbermann here, and O'Reilly beating him badly). This included network TV stations as well as cable, taking EVERYTHING on into account.

I was just using it as an example to show that while O'Reilly gets more, when you take it all into account most people thankfully aren't watching either FOX or MSNBC.

Wow, I never realized all of you knew so much about MSNBC. Perhaps we've got a few closet Keith-watchers out there?

Pretty simple for me to understand, really. MSNBC was OK with pitiful ratings because their guys were in control in DC, they didn't believe the redneck hillbilly clingers were going to be more than just a burp on Nancy's face lift, and they really felt the country was now leaning left and their ratings would indeed return. No need to panic, they thought....and they thought poorly. Turns out the new owners, Comcast, happen to actually read ratings reports and have made the decision to try to turn a profit and get ratings back.

There's a reason outfits like Air America have failed and people don't listen to KO, the Mr. Ed Show, Matthews and Madcow.

The word inside MSNBC is that Keith Olbermann, who'd been negotiating his out with one year left on his contract, can't move to another cable/broadcast news channel right away, so he may be "on ice" for some time. On the other hand, he could go back into sports talk.

I guess he thinks since his program was the highest rated MSNBC broadcast, he was worthy of a few more pesos. The problem is his program is ranked something like 14th in cable news programming.....way, way behind any Fox News offerings.

Is there any wonder why Comcast has said, "Toodles douchee"?

Just my 2 cents, but I actually like the show that Greta puts out. Granted, I've only seen it probably 3 or 4 times, but from what I've seen it's pretty decent. Sometimes her voice gets to me, though lol

Sure, that may be the case people want to hear other crap, but it still does not help. Both Fox and MSNBC are garbage 8pm and after. They are just talking points spewing for one side and against another. No one I work with or know in the policy community watches or listens to them. What appears in the evenings on MSNBC and Fox is NOT journalism. Never has been -- never will be. It's ENTERTAINMENT. Yep, it's political in nature and score, but it's still ENTERTAINMENT.

If you want to start taking TV journalism seriously, again, you'll have to totally revamp NBC, ABC and CBS and make them more objective and balanced. Of course, that's not going to happen.

Appealing to people does not = being good for anyone.

Just like lots of people love different types of fast food but it doesn't make it good for anyone.

For the record I don't either. But that wasn't my point....and you know it. The fact is even without the "after 8PM" clause, Fox News appeals to conservatives and all the rest of the "mainstream" media appeals to liberals. It's simply a GOOD thing to have choice for a change.

If NBC, CBS, CNN, and ABC had been practicing true fair and objective journalism all along rather than being unapologetic and quite obvious mouthpieces for liberal ideology and the Democratic Party in general, we wouldn't even be having this debate.

I grew up in an era when TV journalism had ethics and reported the news without much editorial opinion. I still think most people are smart enough to know the difference. At least MSNBC is true to it's colors as a left leaning network. FOX news bills itself as fair and balanced. People who believe this are either too stupid to know any better or unable to think for themselves.
