Not sure how the hell Iowa played with OSU in the first matchup after watching this game. First half OSU obviously took care of business. Better defensive effort overall. Second half OSU got sloppy with the ball and had way too many turnovers. Of course they were up by 20 at that point. So, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't lights out either. A so so performance by OSU. Still much room for improvement. I am anxious and a bit concerned to see how they play the next couple of games vs some quality teams. I believe they will step and be better focused...and they will need to.

The margin of victory was impressive, but how the hell do you turn the ball over 20 times against Iowa. Better get that under control because they will see much better defenses.

That national title came in 1960. A national title over 50 years ago does not put you in the top echelon.

For comparisons sake, lets look at the three teams mentioned in the top echelon of college basketball and when their last national title was.
Duke - last year
Kansas- 2008
Kentucky - 1998

They played in 3 straight nc games.

I don't think you can put osu in the all time elites. At least right now. If they get to a few final fours and get a nc then yes.

But I could care less if people think of them like unc, ku, uk. It's been fun being a buckeye bball fan for a long time.

There are 5 teams who have more Final Four appearances than OSU does.

Carolina and UCLA both have 18. Duke has 15. Kansas and Kentucky both have 13. OSU is next with 10.

His first post said...
Ohio State has a National Title and only 5 schools in the coutry have been to more Final Fours than Ohio State.

In all honesty though people put just as much stock into getting to the final 4, it seems, then winning the nc game.

I mean people talk about msu all the time. They don't win tons of championships but it's almost the norm that they are in the final 4.

There are 346 teams in college basketball that are eligible to make the tourny. Being one of the last 4 standing after 30+ games is insanely impressive.

Final Fours are a great accomplishment. Obviously NO WHERE near winning it all, but to say you were one of the final 4 teams standing, in a one and done format within a tourney that is as crazy as any, is something special.

I wasn't just pulling things out of my ass when I said that Iowa is abysmal and it was not a good sign OSU played bad against them even on the road. Iowa is flat out one of the worst teams I have watched this year. They are an embarrassment to the conference.

If they do not win their next game against Indiana at home they really don't have more than a 10% chance of winning a game the rest of the season.

Much like Wake Forest is to the ACC. Who lost 74-39 tonight to Ga Tech. 39 points in a division 1 college basketball game.

Wake is killing Xavier's damn RPI. We signed that contract with them on the assumption they would be a little better than a girls high school varsity team lol. Iowa even lost to Wake! What in the world is happening to these two teams?

I have no idea. I mean with Iowa I can somewhat understand it, as they aren't really a stand out program. But Wake is Wake, I don't get it at all.

And to touch on the Final Four thing, I don't have a way to look it up and it would probably be impossible, but if you looked at the team that had the easier path to it I bet that team wins the NC over 75% of the time. Teams are just gassed by the end of the year. Especially as close as NCAA games are and the emotion levels.

DO NOT LIE. Where did I say Ohio State was in the "top echelon"??? Just stating FACTS. Ohio State does have a National Championship and only 5 schools in the country have been to more Final Fours than Ohio State.

this...I mentioned on another thread that team chemistry and unselfishness were this teams' trademarks, and a huge reason (along with talent obviously) they are where they are---- #1

I agree that Iowa isn't one of the great teams right now, but the Buckeyes have to play every team on their schedule. It isn't like..."Well, Iowa isn't very strong this season so lets go get a better opponent so people won't make fun of our schedule." I thought the Buckeyes played pretty well and kept the pressure on and never were threatened at all vs. the Hawkeyes and that's how the Bucks need to play against teams like Iowa. Now, in defense of the Hawkeyes for a moment, they return all but one of their current team next season and I'm sure they will be better by a lot over this season's club. They also fought very hard right to the last horn and they showed a lot of heart by not quitting and trying as hard as they could the whole game. I'm going out on a limb and saying that the next time these two teams meet it will be a very competitive game. Go Bucks! Go all the way.

The more you watch this team the more obvious it becomes. Their 2 best and most talented players, Sully and Buford, are playing extremely unselfish basketball.

Sullinger could be like many other sure thing "one and dones" trying to impress the NBA scouts, but he hasn't. One of the major knocks on him from most scouting services is that he needs to be able to hit the 15-20 footer in the NBA to play the PF position. If you watched him in HS or in the all-star games you know he has that ability, but he best serves the Buckeyes by dominating in the paint with his back to the basket and that is exactly what he has done. He also is on the floor for loose balls and will make the pass to an open teammate when he gets doubled instead of forcing a shot just to get his numbers. When your best player is willing to do that, it rubs off on the rest of the team.

William Buford has the talent to be a 20 ppg scorer, IMO. His jumper is so smooth from deep, and he is probably one of the best mid range shooters in the NCAA. But he has sacrificed some of his numbers this year to play PG for 10-15 mpg. In the past William was a little like Deshaun Thomas is this year, where he didn't meet a shot he didn't like, but has been much more patient and gotten his teammates involved. Here is a guy that was rated as a fringe first round pick coming into this year, that if he would have put up some big numbers could have probably elevated himself as a lock in the 1st round, that was willing to sacrifice to make the team better. IMO, he will be a steal late 1st to 2nd round in the NBA draft, if he comes out this year.

Good post and I agree with all points, other than that Buford is the 2nd best player. Craft is by far the 2nd most important player for this team.
