After hearing about the terrible tragedy in AZ in which 6 people were killed and a congresswoman shot, it makes me wonder, had there been someone in the crowd with a CCW permit and was carrying that day, could they have at least prevented more people from getting killed if they intervened?

I just completed the Ohio CCW course today and a tragic event like this happening the very same day reinforces my belief that law abiding citizens should arm themselves and protect themselves from scumbags like the assailant today. Law enforcement can NOT be everywhere all the time, we must protect ourselves as well.

Does anyone else on the OC have a CCW or thinking about getting one?

I actually got mine just a few months ago (only $75), but I've yet to actually carry. Hmmm...

Anyway D-Crew, I thought there was somebody in the AZ. crowd who carried and fired?

Yes I have a CCW and I do carry about 40% of the time. Sometime I am not carrying but have the weapon and holster in a lock box in my truck...

IMO all a CCW does is interject more chaos into any already hostile situation [like yesterday].

Just my opinion.

They're may have been, but I didn't hear anything about it. Is there any links?

Most definitely. I carry nearly 100% of the time. It is my belief that you should arm yourself at all times.

Just my opinion.

You're entitled to your opinion, I just happen to disagree. I feel that if someone is adequetly trained in the handling of a firearm (having a permit doesn't necessarily qualify someone as being adequetly trained), then they could have shot this kid before he shot more people. Again, this is strictly my opinion.

It also gives some sort of chance of saving lives, where as if no one has one there is 0% chance of someone doing something about the gunman.

I would also edit to add I have been wanting to purchase a pistol, but in this jacked up state you have to go to the Sheriff's office and a get a "purchase permit" first, and I have not had the time to do so. It surprises me that in Ohio you can go to the store and buy one, but in this southern state you can't.

Well, I wouldn't say 0%, but it does raise your odds much more and evens the fight out. I believe he was tackled by several members in attendance. However, having someone with a CCW and carrying a weapon can help save lives, that I do agree with.

Don't have a link, but yesterday on the news (FOX at the time) they interviewed the guy.

Nope. Don't want one either - with kids in the house until recently, the odds of an accident were much higher than of being harmed in a situation where being armed would prevent it.

However - I fully support your right to do so.

Not to pick on you, but that made me think of a statistic. Does anyone know what is the most dangerous thing to have at your house?
