According to ESPN.COM. Very surprising news.Andrew Luck just made some player a lot of money.

He doesn't want to go to Carolina is my guess. So pull an Elway or Manning, your draft stock will never be higher.

Everyone thought Bradford was crazy for coming back and look how things turned out for him. You only get one chance to play college football and it good to see the kid coming back... also I think hes a much better QB than Leinart and Locker ever were in college I don't see him have a terrible year like they did when they came back.

vball that's what I'm wondering as well my guess is Harbaugh is probably staying as well.

Huh. Shocking , but hey the kid wants to stay in school. I don't blame him for that.
So, his stock may fall a bit, but he will probably still get millions of dollars in the NFL.

That's understandable but he will get guaranteed money if he leaves now and who knows what could happen as far as a rookie salary cap in the NFL or when they agree to a new CBA. I understand that's where his heart is at but it's a bad business decision IMO.

Wow this is shocking. I thought for sure this kid would go Pro, especially considering the ill-advised moves of Leinart and Locker as of recent.

Luck was forsure going to be taken #1 overall. As other posters have mentioned, his stock will never be higher.

I think this means a couple things:

(1) that Jim Harbaugh will be back coaching at Stanford next season, and

(2) Luck didn't want to go / play for Carolina.


This is HUGE news.

#1 - Money is not a motivating factor to this kid, read up on his family. His Dad played in the league, is a former CEO of Sport Authority, and currently the A.D. at WVU. Money is not a question.
#2- He goes to Stanford - and is an Architectural Engineer major. The kid is off the charts bright, and his education is worth a ton, an injury his first year in the NFL may give him guarenteed money up front, but he loses out in the end.
#3 - He's going to get his money whether he leaves now or next year, or the year after that. Experts say he's the best QB prospect since, well, EVER. I'm sure his pops has his injury insurance already lined-up, so the money is coming either from the NFL or the insurance company.
#4 - He's a kid who doesn't want to forego his college experience, his friends, and another year of grooming himself to g4et ready for the big time.
Who the hell wants to be the number 1 pick - go to a shitty team, and run for thier life all year behind a shitty O-Line?
Just a few things to look at.
Hell, it could be as easy as his girlfriend goes to Palo Alto and he doesn't want to move to the other coast, who knows?

Good for him. I always applaud a guy when he makes a decision to stay in school. But I also respect when someone leaves early and rightfully so.

Thanks for writing out basically everything I was just about to so I could back up my thoughts from my first post. I agree with your points completely.

I look back onto my college athletic expriences and they are some of the best of my lifetime I wouldn't ever have wanted to pass those up.

If his dad is a former CEO, he sure as hell isn't advising him very well.

Yeah, it's admirable that he's going back to college, not only in it for money, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Fact is, his stock will never be higher and the NFL is almost certainly going to end up with a rookie salary schedule of some kind, which means he's turning down millions in guaranteed dollars that won't be there next year (probably).

Take the money and go back for your degree. You have an opportunity to set up not only yourself, but your children and their children for life.

Common sense would say you go pro now, and work out the other details of your life later when your bank account is fat and happy. :)

umm...what? wouldnt the rookie cap come into play his rookie year, in 2011, if he had come out? (that is, if they pass a rookie cap with the new CBA)
