Yeah they have look improved but this is the preseason, my team beat the Falcons and there is no way we beat them in a regular season game in Atlanta. Browns seem to be trending in the right direction though.

The loss of Vickers will hurt the production of Hillis.

That will be part of it plus he won't get nearly as many carries in this offense.

I won't be surprised at all. This defense is gonna suck and I also think this offense will put up a lot of points. He will pad a lot of his stats just due to garbage time/playing catchup.

Well they always say a player improves most from year 1 to year 2 so I could see that. Would be quite an improvement from only 6 td's to 9 int's.

They haven't even scratched the surface of this playbook. This offense is going to be "pass, pass and, when in doubt, pass." Unless he throws 30+ int's, which I doubt, his yardage will improve just by the high volume of passes thrown.

Yardage definitely but you don't measure the success of a qb based on yardage alone, he seems to be making good decisions with the ball and that is what matters when it comes down to winning and losing games.

Berea Report: Hardesty Set to Return Thursday
Montario Hardesty
By Fred Greetham
OBR Browns Reporter
Posted Aug 21, 2011
Browns injured running back expected to play in team's third preseason game at Philadelphia.
BEREA — It has been a long time coming. Montario Hardesty hasn’t played in a game in about a year. On Sept. 2, 2010, Hardesty tore his ACL against the Chicago Bears in the final preseason game.
The Browns have been very careful with Hardesty throughout training camp, insisting that he was being held out as a precautionary measure. He hasn’t been in contact drills since last week, even though he has practiced from the first day of camp.
Pat Shurmur was asked if he anxious to see Hardesty play in a game this week when the Browns travel to play the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night.
“I am looking forward to having him come back out there,” Shurmur said. “He looks better and better each day.”
The Browns had big plans for Hardesty in 2010 after they traded up to draft him in the second-round (59th overall). Cleveland gave up a third-round and two fifth-round picks to take the Tennessee running back. There are some who felt Hardesty was going to be the featured back in 2010 until the injury. Peyton Hillis took full advantage of the opportunity and the rest is history.
However, the Browns still are hoping Hardesty can lighten Hillis' load.
“I know he’s anxious to get out there,” Shurmur said. “We put him in the 9-on-7 and 7-on-7 team drills (Sunday). He was in a lot of traffic and did a good job.”
Mike Holmgren is excited to see Hardesty back in game action.
“I’m looking forward very much so to seeing him play,” Holmgren said. “He’s a fine young man and he’s worked very hard to get back to playing.”
Notebook
Big Show: Mike Holmgren has been very helpful to Shurmur adjusting to being an NFL head coach.
“He’s been a huge, huge help to me in a lot of ways,” Shurmur said. “From game day preparation, to things off the field.”
Holmgren has been visible on the practice fields during training camp and was asked to give his thoughts on a couple of subjects after Sunday’s practice.
•On QB Colt McCoy: “He’s doing alright. I thought he has showed he has a good understanding of the offense and has gotten off to a pretty good start.”
•On McCoy spending time with Brett Favre: “I have mixed feelings on that,” he said laughing. “No, Brett’s a great guy.”
•On if there is any chance the NFL would repeal the new kickoff rule from the 35-yard-line this year: “No. I spoke up (at league meetings). It was sold for safety reasons and I understand that. But, I hope we revisit it next year. My motives are selfish because we have a good return guy.”
•On talking to WR Greg Little after he punted the ball into the seats after his first touchdown: “I did as a matter of fact. I’m not coaching, but I told him (after we drafted him) that I’d be involved in his life.”
Cribbs Slowed: WR Josh Cribbs tweaked his left hamstring near the end of practice Sunday, but he said he’ll be alright.
“It’s a minor setback,” he said. “It’s not too bad.”
Masaquoi Close: Shurmur said that WR Mohamed Massaquoi should start running soon.
“He’s very close,” he said. “It’s my understanding that he will be out running in the next couple of dyas.”
Massaquoi is not expected to play Thursday against the Eagles.
Injury Update: LB Chris Gocong (stinger), WR Mohamed Massaquoi (foot), S T.J. Ward (mouth), S Usama Young (hamstring), LB Steve Octavien (undisclosed), OL Eric Steinbach (knee),TE Evan Moore (head) and RB Brandon Jackson (toe) all missed practice.
Shurmur said that Moore has a ‘mild concussion’ and he hasn’t heard anything that would cause him to be out indefinitely. Moore had a concussion last year and spoke out of his concern for having recurring injuries to the head.
Jackson is having his toe ‘evaluated’. Shurmur described it as turf toe after Friday’s game. Shurmur said that he thought Steinbach would be on the field soon.
RB Peyton Hillis, LB Scott Fujita and TE Ben Watson returned to practice.

Don't think Hillis will get as many. Between B-Jax and possibly Hardesty sharing touches, plus with how much they'll be throwing, just don't see him getting 300.

Hardest is good for 7 carries before he'll put on the IR.

Aug. 22, 2011 10:21 a.m. - by Marty Gitlin - Is not vying for a starter affecting Wallace's performance?
For a QB with extensive experience running the West Coast offense, Seneca Wallace is not having a strong preseason. He's been off-target on many of his throws. One wonders if the disappointment at receiving no consideration for the starting job has negatively affected him. Browns RapidReports

Aug. 22, 2011 10:18 a.m. - by Marty Gitlin - CB Brown should retain starting position
Those concerned with veteran CB Sheldon Brown as the starter probably shouldn't be. He continues to have a solid camp. His coverages have been tight in both practice and game situations. Browns RapidReports

I get deeply suspicious when they say things like they're "re-evaluating" an injury. Especially something like turf toe. I've seen too many players end up losing whole seasons because of that injury. I hope my angst is misguided.

After walking out, James Davis officially done with Redskins
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 22, 2011, 9:17 AM EDT
APRedskins running back James Davis walked out of training camp last week because he was upset with his spot on the depth chart, leading to coach Mike Shanahan saying Davis was retired. Whatever Davis’s status, he’s not the Redskins’ problem anymore.
The Redskins have waived Davis, officially ending his tenure with the team.
Any team that wants Davis can claim him on waivers, but it’s hard to see why any team would want him. Football coaches like players who respond to being at the bottom of the depth chart by working hard, not by quitting.
And so Davis is likely done in the NFL, at the age of 25.

Cleveland Browns quarterbacks feeling the dog days of camp, too
Published: Monday, August 22, 2011, 12:23 PM Updated: Monday, August 22, 2011, 12:31 PM
By Tony Grossi, The Plain Dealer
BEREA -- Observations from Browns practice Monday morning ...
* Even though the weather has been cool, these final days of camp truly are the dog days. Coach Pat Shurmur alluded to tired legs and players not doing much talking out there, just trying to get practice over with. The same may apply to the quarterbacks. Looked like some dead arms out there today. Colt McCoy was a little late on a long sideline out -- the one pass that challenges his arm strength. Then receiver Rod Windsor had to wait for a long ball down the sideline. Windsor caught it over Ramzee Robinson. In the same period, McCoy flung a wobbler to the far sideline to Jordan Norwood. Seneca Wallace had some bad throws, too. Sheldon Brown intercepted him twice, once on a deep ball down the left sideline and another time jumping in front of Johnathan Haggerty in the middle of the field.
* Speaking of QBs, it's not set in stone that the Browns will keep three quarterbacks on the active roster. If they stock up on receivers and keep four tight ends, the third quarterback may pay the price. Contributing to the decision might be Jarrett Brown's 1-for-6 performance with one INT in sporadic preseason play. This is not to say the Browns have soured on Brown as a developmental prospect. In fact, Shurmur said he feels good about "some of the progress" Brown has shown and believes he has a lot of ability. But everyone knows Brown needs a lot of growth before he can perform at an acceptable level in an NFL game. Could be practice squad-bound.
* Ten Browns were out: Mohamed Massaquoi, Chris Gocong, Josh Cribbs, Steve Octavien, Evan Moore, Usama Young, T.J. Ward, Buster Skrine, Eric Steinbach and Brandon Jackson. Also, safety Brett Johnson limped off with a thigh bruise.
* Rookie Jason Pinkston has gotten a lot more reps with the No. 1 unit in Steinbach's left guard spot. He probably will make his first start Thursday in Philadelphia. John Greco got the call against Detroit, probably because he's an experienced swingman and Pinkston wasn't ready. It was interesting to see Branndon Braxton also getting work at right guard with the No. 2 unit. Braxton looks to be a keeper as a tackle who can play both sides. Expanding his experience to guard would improve the chances of him being on the 46-player active list for game days.
* Middle linebacker D'Qwell Jackson is flourishing in the new 4-3 defense, impressing teammates and coaches. But he's understandably reserved about declaring himself back after two successive pectoral muscle injuries.
* Good to see former right tackle Ryan Tucker visiting camp with his family. Tucker said he's taking classes at Baldwin-Wallace College and has no pangs about not playing. He dabbled in coaching in the United Football League and got that taste out of his mouth. Tucker retired prior to the 2009 season.
* By the way, Shurmur lauded the play of right guard Shawn Lauvao against Ndamukong Suh Friday in the Detroit game.
* I have no inside information but I would assume the Browns would have more interest in North Carolina defensive end Michael McAdoo than Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor. We'll know by the end of the day.
* About 200 kids from Cleveland youth organizations were on hand as part of the club's Play 60 program, which promotes health in youth groups. A lot of Browns players converged after practice to sign autographs and mingle. Receiver Brian Robiskie went a step further, gathering some of the kids on the field for some impromptu touch football instruction.
