And, more importantly, he has hands like glue. Haven't had a reliable 3rd down WR since Joe J.

White receivers work hard and do their job. That's a fact

And as far as the "secret" free agent signing goes, Heckert has previously said that he will NEVER announce a name until the contract is signed....smart man (See Brandon Stokley/Skins today)

I really think the "secret signing" is Ray Edwards. I was pretty sure Atlanta dropped out of the running late last night. Usama Young...the only thing I can say is that the FO must have seen something they liked in order to bring the kid in. He was a back-up his whole career in New Orleans.
I think that Joseph was a very real possibility for the Browns, but I think that players are using team offers as a barganing piece for other offers. Supposedly the Browns offered him a HUGE deal, but it wasn't big enough for him. While he knows he won't get Asomugha type money, he'll get paid pretty well. I think he'll end up in Tampa though.

I think Edwards is using Cleveland's offer to drive up the price in TEN. Tennessee has no state taxes, I believe, so that's a + (and warmer weather) for them.
Joseph was just sitting back waiting for Asomugha, who I hear will be getting $12-14 mill/yr (more than Revis), so he could get the "real" bids. Is Joseph worth that? Hell no but Weddle got paid a ridonkulous amount and he wasn't worth it.
Speaking of Weddle, read a piece about his last 72 hours and there were 3-5 teams who contacted his agent, Heckert being one of them, and once the price was established, they ALL bowed out. Our GM isn't too dumb after all.

With the Lock-out I havent even thought of it. But outside of Mort and Schefter, who is there to follow for this kind of thing in the NFL?

And now it's the Falcons...
nfldraftupdate Dion Caputi
Important to note, #Browns are still very much involved in #Vikings free agent DE Ray Edwards race. Theyre bidding with #Falcons

I read this also, I don't get this one. Don't they have a bigger need on the outside than at tackle?

I was just going to say the same thing. I think they'll land one of these two guys.
I'm so glad Heckart isn't overpaying for a much of money hungry bastards. Yes, Weddle would've been nice - but he's not that nice. I wouldn't even put him as a Top 5 S in the league, let alone money wise.
I was wrong about the Falcolns and Edwards. If it's down to ATL and CLE, I think he winds up in CLE. Rumors have it that this is going to be the craziest day since the lockout was lifted, but I expect tomorrow is going to be bonkers.
Serious question here... Vince Young is going to be cut this afternoon. Winning record, WCO in CLE....? You know he'll command SOME money but not a whole lot?

Don't really have a problem with a rotation of Jenkins, Taylor & Rubin. Would be kinda tough running up the gut.

BR, what are you hearing regarding the Cap and the Browns? Do they need to cut anyone to be able to sign some guys and if so, who is likely?

They cut Delhomme and they're $35 million below. They need to SIGN guys, not cut em' at this point.Laley23;844572 wrote:BR, what are you hearing regarding the Cap and the Browns? Do they need to cut anyone to be able to sign some guys and if so, who is likely?

NO! But mostly because you have agreed to give the reigns to Colt. If you didnt have Colt, and were just kind of throwing shit to the wall, than sure. But you dont want a back-up who think she should start (and is capable) and you dont want McCoy to go back to the bench after being the guy all off-season/lockout.

I think Cullin can play DE as well but did so in a 3-4. I've seen a lot of places that actually list him as a DE. But he is 300+ so he'll probably DT in Cle. Jenkins, Rubin, and Tayler would be our DT...nasty.
Didn't see this anywhere yet, but Greg Little has been inked as well.

Ok thanks. I thought that was the case, but today is the first time Ive been able to sit down and really evaluate the league and such. REALLY hoping the get Edwards for the outside, and like you Cullen Jenkins would be fine with me. 3 BIG bodies up the middle makes it tough to run against. The rotation would also allow the big boys to stay fresh not just all game, but all season.
But Edwards is my #1 over Jenkins.

I wasnt saying its a dumb idea in theory. But with what they are doing, he is a guy who could ruin it in a season. If you didnt have a QB, you might take the chance. But not now.

As a Browns fan, it's nice to even be mentioned in regards to impact free agents. It's been a long time since they've signed a FA to be excited about.

So if Holmgren got his hands on him? You don't think that'd change? Look at Vick! Just asking here...

That could be, and thats why I would take the chance IF McCoy wasnt here. I dont think it is smart (whoever you are talking about, sans a top 10 QB) to bring a guy in to compete with McCoy after he has been the man for almost a year.
