Wonder if Sabrina Parr will be dialing those digits now that he has some free time?

I think Shurmur is lost, too, but I think it's self inflicted. If I'm Holmgren, I force him to hire a good OC to run the offense and tell Shurmur he needs to be a HEAD COACH and not a coordinator during games. That means he has to pay attention to a lot of different areas.

Then I evaluate him based on those parameters and see if he improves. If not, start looking for a replacement.

I think this is his biggest issue. He's playing HC, OC and face of the franchise in front of the media. Too much for a first year coach. I'd kinda hope with a full offseason with OTA's, training camp, etc he'd grow into the position. My biggest issue with him is no sack. He coaches not to lose...4-8 and he opts for a FG against Pittsburgh on 4th and goal?

He just needs an offensive coordinator to call plays from the booth. This whole "rookie head coach who calls his own plays" thing was doomed from the get-go. News flash Pat you're NOT Sean Payton. If his ego won't let him turn over the play-calling duties to someone in the booth who can see the whole field than he clearly doesn't understand what being a head coach is all about.

The #Browns have just announced that Mike Holmgren will meet with the media at 11:45am

I wonder what the local radio thinks about him coming down from the ivory tower now.

Thanks for the heads-up about the press conference. I am watching it now on the Browns site.

Holmgren is going step by step on procedures the team did after McCoy got hit. He says the Browns did everything correctly, and McCoy showed no signs of a problem until after the game.

Did Holmgren refer to the fans as "Joe Six Pack?"

I heard he did say that Shurmur was "going to be around for a LONG time."

I did not hear the fan reference, but yes, he did say that Shurmur would be around for a long time.

He would not bite when reporters asked for his opinion on Colt. He said that would be evaluated after the season.

He did say that they could be 7-6 now if not for bad snaps and dropped passes. I would interpret that as meaning he wants new receivers next year.

Jerrod Cherry said on Monday that next to Bill Belicheck Shurmur is among the safest coaches in the NFL right now as far as job security because of Holmgren's love for him. Pat Shurmur won't leave until Holmgren does.

yes, he did say shurmur will be a successful head coach here for a long time.....

He kind of got frustrated with the media and almost said something he didn't want to, but if you heard the presser you knew where he was going to go.... he caught himself and said no I'm not going to go there.

Why wouldn't you talk to Colt himself before talking to the NFL and NFLPA to make sure what your staff told you and the things colt said match up....like I said, this presser raised more questions rather than resolve anything.

Holmgren also came out and said Colt was not treated for a concussion during the game....the claim was that the trainers didn't see the hit and when they got out to tend to him he was complaining about his hand....and showed no signs of a concussion. The odd thing is the sideline is full of people who are watching the game and even if you aren't watching colt 100% of the time, you should of seen that hit coming. In saying that, SOMEONE had to of watched it and question why he is being put back in the game after that hit or should of said something to coaches or trainers.

Holmgren wasn't getting favorable reviews by either the local radio guys or the national analysts (Albert Greer) for the way he came across today.

Phil Taylor got a $15k fine for his hit on Roethlisberger.
Man!! All these fines is crazy! After while the NFL will be 2 hand touch.
True that Phil. Goodell needs to go commission figure skating or something that better fits his pussy mindset.

Which hit was Phil fined for? The rapistberger injury hit?

The regime is one embarrassment after another at this point.

To say I am highly disappointed in Holmgren so far is a mild understatement.

We are 2 years into his tenure so far and we are as far or further away from competing than when he got here. We are still wildly disorganized, and the fan base is still disgusted. We still don't have a long term solution at quarterback or head coach, and the over all level of talent on the team is still poor.

Installing a credible football presence like Holmgren was supposed to stop these embarrassing episodes, and yet the hits just keep coming.

The roughing the passer call in the 1st quarter for a blow to the head. I can't find the video of it. It was a legit penalty, but the hits that are fine-worthy in the NFL now is a joke.

92.3 the Fan has been just savaging Holmgren and Shurmur most of the day.

The media is pissed at Holmgren for trying to tell them they should be cheerleading Pat Shurmur instead of pointing out how in over his head he is.

I think Mike is frustrated because he knows the hire is a disaster, but admitting so this early would be a huge stain on his reputation so he is trying anything he can to quell dissent in the hopes Shurmur someone becomes Vince Lombardi.

Shurmur is a good whipping boy for him, because if he lets him go the fingers will start pointing at Holmgren. As long as the media can focus on Shurmur's ineptitude, they won't notice the man behind the curtain. Unfortunately for him, the level of incompetence emanating from the head coach is so great that it has started to make the media ask how in the world he could have ever thought Pat was ready to be a head coach.
