Interesting, imo.

The difference is both of the previous two cases occurred during the season. RPN was pulled over the Wednesday before the USC Bush Push game if I remember correctly. Interesting, IMO.

Exactly, and protocol from reslife is to suspend from extra curriculars for one semester, which appears to be what Floyd is serving. His DUI came at the best possible time for him. Sit out spring and back in the fall.

So Res Life treats situations different in-season as opposed to out of season? How does that work for regular undergraduate students? Or are the rules different in relation to athletes?

If Micheal Floyd were a back up line man this would have been a done issue. He would have lost his scholarship. Three alchohol related arrests in 2 years? C'Mon now!! Even the Buckeyes would have cut him loose after this third offense!!

Yes!! Really. Three times is a bit much, two of which were underage. Please tell me which Buckeyes players were arrested three different times for anything while at the University?

I don't know the answer to that but, at the risk of starting a pissing match, I don't think OSU is a very good "example" or "comparison" to use after all that has happened there lately.

OSU is definitely not the program that should attempt to call Notre Dame out in this situation.

Also, Kelly has said the Floyd is still suspended indefinitely and hasn't even thought about how many games he will miss. He did say Floyd has a long way to go before he is reinstated to the team. All that has been announced is that Floyd was not suspended from school. He still has to appear in court and face possible punishment from Kelly.

Fair enough. I'm just sayin, Tressel has been this issue lately. There havent been any recorded situations where any individual player was arrested 3 different times for alchohol, or any other, different violations.

Very true. Lets call a spade a spade. Which, in your eyes, is a worse discretion for a player. Selling memorabilia for free tattoos or 3 arrests for drinking violations? It is a fair question, answer it correctly.

There is no correct answer because it is apples to oranges, especially when you consider the bolded part of your quote. One set of students broke a rather obvious NCAA rule, and one that they do not fuck around with (and everyone knows that). One broke the law repeatedly, but it's a legal and university issue, which could (and should) lead to similar punishment.

Both sets of players were stupid as hell, and made piss poor decisions. In the grand scope of things FOR A STUDENT (and how universities handle it), obviously repeated alcohol violations is worse, but based on your question of which is worse FOR A STUDENT ATHLETE, it's a wash because of the NCAA rulebook and how they view what the OSU players did. That's the unfortunate reality of college athletics.

Good answer by ts. Also, it's not like OSU hasn't had it's share of DUIs, which is what I was referring to. DUIs and NCAA violations are not the same thing. This isn't the place to discuss it, but look back at several recent buckeyes who got DUIs and then look at their punishment.

I was under the impression that the previous underages weren't on his record anyway.

Also, one would have to take into account the preferential treatment OSU players get too. Have you ever tried to take a picture of underage OSU football players drinking? I haven't haha but I work with plenty of girls who have and it doesn't end well. There is a system in place, and rightfully so, to prevent underages being given to OSU football players. I saw Pryor out at the bars numerous times when he was underage. It happens, and I couldn't care less. To me, the underages only prove he has friends. If you don't drink when you're underage in college, you're a bit of a freak. Simply saying, if you go around harping "third offense!!" you're an utter jackass.

That said, his .19 OVI is ridiculous. But take into account he is suspended from spring ball, he will have legal ramifications (most likely severe probation if not a few nights in the slammer, which I would be in favor of for anyone who blows >.12), and ResLife didn't not punish him, they only didn't punish him in the fall.

Some of the hater posts are ridiculous! Bottom line, Floyd has done enough to avoid being suspended from school in the eyes of those who make the decisions. He still has numeroud hurdles to jump if he wants to remain on the football team, which isn't a given. Rashon Powers Neal didn't resolve his issues and was never reinstated to the football team, the same thing could happen to Floyd. Let this thing play out in it's entirety before passing judgement.

After watching a spring practice and a scrimmage I can tell the Fighting Irish Faithful they need not worry about Navy this year. They are small and slow compared to the past several years. In addition, their passing game is nonexistent. I was very disappointed in the lack defensive intensity.

It wasn't a good showing this week. Hopefully I can be more optimistic after we head down for the spring game in two weeks.

Btw, still wondering if Lotz can answer my questions above.

Sorry, I didn't see your questions above. If this had occurred during the regular season, Floyd would have been suspended indefinitely by Kelly first of all as he was a few weeks ago, before Res Life or the courts would have had their say. I believe it was Weis that initially suspended Powers-Neal before it got to Res Life. Regular undergraduate students face the same Res Life that athletes face, mainly because athletes are students first. There have been cases recently that are showing that Res Life is changing its archaic ways, as evidenced by Ragone and McAlarney. There have been changes to the people involved with making those decisions. Please give examples of "regular undergraduate students" who have been suspended by Res Life recently for similar offenses. You won't be able to find them in large part because Res Life doesn't make those rulings public. Its just that we hear about the athletes because they are athletes and its pretty simple to see whether they are on the team or not. If a "regular undergraduate student" faces Res Life, neither you, Brian Hamiltion, nor I would know about it.

Also, did McAlarney play football? I didn't think so. Maybe the new found leniency is a nod to basketball's importance that is trickling down to the rest of the athletic programs.

How many other universities have a something similar to ResLife? At Ohio State it's always dished out by the football program, no? Perhaps I'm wrong, but the only school who has a legitimate position to bitch about this ResLife announcement is a place like BYU. If they didn't suspend that player for premarital sex, would we all be bitching their newly-found leniency? Just because he former ResLife czar was a quack doesn't mean they all have to be and straying away from stupidity isn't weakening morals in some regards it's common sense (since we have yet to see how this plays out).

In my opinion Floyd picked an opportune time to be an idiot. If this happened after spring or mid-season he'd be toast in my opinion.

Maty Mauk was in South Bend yesterday and this morning for practice and he and his dad were pretty impressed with the trip. Mike Mauk said Maty was close to committing, but wanted to talk it over with the family before doing so. I think, but am not sure, that he will be at the Blue Gold game this Saturday, along with a pretty good list of other recruits.
