Childress was exposed when he was not able to ride Reid's coatails, and Cleveland doesn't need to have Marty remind everyone that his experience in Detroit is what everyone knows he is as a head coach.

Grossi, who I don't really put any reliance on, thinks Holmgren will step into coach, implement WCO, and retain Ryan and Seely. However, he thinks he won't announce it until he interviews a minority (which I hate the rule, but that is for a different thread).

If it's Morninweg we might as well discuss who our new coach will be in a couple years. That would be the biggest joke of a hire I have ever seen.

Man Holmgren is so desperate to give Marty another shot it is ridiculous.

He is going to turn the fan base against him right now for no reason. Mornhinweg was 5-27 in 2 seasons in Detroit. How the fuck do you sell that to the fan base as the guy who is going to take us out of the doldrums? He doesn't even call the plays in Philly, so its not like we can assume he is some offensive wizard that can bring that to Cleveland. Ask Minnesota how that turned out for them before Favre pulled Chilly's ass out of the fire last year.

I have heard that all season that M.M is Holmgren's guy, and it is a super buzz kill that it is looking like it will be a reality as I have zero faith this will do anything but depress the players and fan base when reality strikes that one of the worst H.C's in NFL history is the new captain of our ship.

i really hope eric is gone, after today i am convinced these players quit on him today. i have season tickets and i for one am glad this season is over. i thought rob ryan was the man for our defense but i was wrong, after seeing what the bills and bengals did to our defense, and when our defense needed a stop we couldn't do it. so good bye mangini daboll and ryan. whoever holmgren and heckert decide to bring in as our head coach i will support. lets hope we have another monster draft and get a couple stud FA and we can win some games next year.

Agreed!! I would definately consider finding a new team to root for if he hires another no name coach that hasn't done a thing in the NFL.

Look, I'm no fan of Morningwheg...but I will also say that it's not entirely fair to assume he's going to be a lousy head coach based on his record in Detroit. He coached under Matt Millen. His quarterbacks were Charlie Batch and Joey Harrington. His best receiver was Az Hakim. I'm pretty sure most coaches would struggle with those circumstances. I trust Holmgren's judgement, it's what the Browns hired him to do...make football decisions. If Morningwheg is his guy than I'll give him a chance.

I could see Holmgren bringing in Brett Favre to be the QB coach and mentor Colt McCoy....

This move is exactly why Cleveland will not win anything. They played with a rookie QB! Another restart and they will fire the next coach in 3 years.......

I have a feeling I am not Brett's type.

But speaking of consistency the Steelers have had three head coaches since 1969. No one there wonders if they will have a job tomorrow so they just go play football within their system.

I bet your italian wife is his type......

And that is why the Steelers have such a great tradition.....they draft better than anyone, their assistant coaches develop the talent to succeed in their systems, and they have the winning attitude. The Browns have none of that!

Good point, but that was what? 8 years ago? I would think he would be a little more knowledgeable about overtime strategy since then
