Absolutely not. Fox might make a good DC but I don't want to see him in Cleveland. Everyone was critical of hiring Mangini when he had a 23-25 record coaching the Jets. Fox spent 9 years in Carolina and will finish with a .500 record of 73-73. If we judge by experience, Fox has a larger body of work yet the same mediocrity.

The thread title is misleading. The article states decision after the game and possible replacement.

...which is all true. Don't know why the content in this particular case is discounted.

You're right...the title is very misleading.

Do you really want Holmgren to coach this team?

I'm not sure why people are upset at the thought of Holmgren coaching, because he's proven... The only reason I don't want Holmgren as the HC is because I want him to continue being the talent evaluator full time. Last seasons draft/offseason was one of our best yet.

That is exactly why he should stick with what he is doing.

Which is the reason I said I wouldn't want him as HC.. However, some people's comments are being read as if the guy isn't a good HC or something.

Despite the positive direction, simple clock management was botched on several occasions costing games. There's no one to blame that crap on other than Mangini. You can't fix stupid.
This.
However, I would accept keeping Mangini another year IF...they can Daboll and bring in a new OC...McDaniels?

i can live with giving mangini one more go-round to prove his worth. daboll, on the otherhand, should have already been given his walking papers

I thought I heard before that McDaniels and Peyton Hillis don't get a long...that's why the Broncos didn't mind letting him go to Cleveland. If it is true, then I'm not sure if he would want to come to Cleveland to be with Hillis again.

Plus Holmgren is 6fucking2. Sorry but thats getting up there, not a long term solution. Holmgren as the HC this yr yield different results? Maybe by a win or two, but the browns lack talent. I have a bigger issue with the OC, fire his ass and let Holmgren coach the offense and call plays.

Brian Daboll just has no business running an NFL offense, and Mangini's refusal to cut the cord with him will ultimately do him in.

There was that period of time where things were looking better, but Mangini just doesn't know how to handle prosperity. It goes against everything he believes in with his "coach not to lose" instead of "coach to win" philosophy.

"Coach you have one more play in your last game as the coach of the Browns, what do you want to call?"

"Uhh..draw. Shotgun."

Erica Womangini in a nutshell. If the Browns do decide to get another coach, it needs to be a big hire. I was never too fond of the Womangini hire to begin with. Lerner rushed into that hire when he could have interviewed many more coaches who are better. Hopefully this time they will take their time if they are in search of a new coach.

I thought Mangini's decision today to kick a field goal down 14-0 on 4th & goal from the 2 in a meaningless game instead of going for 7 was the Mangini regime wrapped up in a nutshell. This organization is just never going to go anywhere with a coach that is always coaching like he has a stick up his ass like that.

So who do they replace him with? My first choice is Gruden, but if not him, and not Holmgren, who else would they look at? John Fox?

Gruden would be ideal. I think he could make McCoy a serviceable Rich Gannon type in a west coast offense, and the Browns desperately need someone with an offensive mind in here after 3 straight defense first (Davis, Crennel, Mangini) coaches. Defense is important, but with the way the NFL is today you have to be able to score points to have a chance to compete, and that has been an issue for too long now with this franchise.

The other thing is that at least we know that Holmgren/Gruden would be on the same page and singing from the same hymn book philosophically. I think credibility wise someone like Gruden could come in on day 1 and demand (and get) respect from the players because of what he has accomplished in the league. Mangini always came off as a joke to the players for the most part because he was trying to be the hoody without the hardware to justify being a task master. At least Gruden would be taken seriously, and most importantly would be possibly attract free agents instead of repel them like Mangini did.

Don't know much about him, but don't really want him from what I do know. Andy Reid calls all of the plays, and he once chose to kick in OT instead of receive, and promptly lost. I guess I just don't see the upside.
